NDA ADVANCES PLANS FOR AGRICULTURAL MECHANIZATION CENTERS IN NORTHERN GHANA

The Northern Development Authority (NDA), in collaboration with Takara Services Limited and technical partners, is making significant progress in establishing agricultural mechanization centers to improve farmers’ access to modern machinery and agricultural services across Northern Ghana.

On September 18, 2026, the NDA hosted Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) at its Head Office in Tamale for a technical presentation on proposed designs to remodel and rehabilitate the ICOUR workshop in Tono, Kassena Nankana Municipality, Upper East Region.
The Tono facility is proposed as the pilot main agricultural mechanization center, with additional sub-centers planned for:
📍 Fumbisi – Builsa South District
📍 Yagaba – Mamprugu Moagduri District
📍 Langbinsi – East Mamprusi District

The engagement brought together the AESL team, led by its Upper East Regional Consultant, Mr. Fidelis Apore, and the CEO of Takara Services Limited, Mr. Moses Bamidele, along with their teams.

The presentation allowed the NDA and Takara Services Limited to review the proposed designs, provide technical input to refine them, and finalize the associated cost estimates.

The initiative is now progressing to the next phase, which will focus on construction, rehabilitation, and operationalization of the mechanization centers.
Once operational, the centers are expected to bring mechanization services closer to farmers, support timely farm operations, improve agricultural productivity, and help transform agriculture into a more modern, commercially oriented sector.

🌱 Modernizing agriculture, expanding opportunity, and transforming Northern Ghana.

NDA PARTICIPATED IN A PANEL DISCUSSION ON DAY 2 OF THE ONGOING 2026 WORLD SHEA EXPO IN TAMALE

The NDA participated in a panel discussion titled "Scaling Shea Enterprises: Transitioning informal or small-scale businesses into competitive, investment-ready enterprises." Panel members included GEA, WACSIR/UDS, CORD-GHANА, and NDA.

Mr. Milad represented the NDA and outlined the authority's mandate to coordinate development initiatives and promote value addition across the shea value chain. He emphasized that coordinated regional planning — encompassing infrastructure, logistics, and enterprise support — is essential to transforming northern Ghana from a raw-material exporter into a processing hub.

NDA proposed a dedicated Shea Belt Feeder Road Fund to support feeder road rehabilitation and maintenance across the Northern, Savannah, North East, Upper East, and Upper West regions, with maintenance contracts tied to community oversight.

They also proposed Decentralized Aggregation and Storage Hubs: solar-powered centers in Yendi, Bimbilla, Salaga, and Damango featuring drying floors, moisture-controlled storage, and grid-tied solar to connect villages to factories.

The panel approved a Coordinated SME Support Package that includes affordable credit, business development and formalization (GEA), technology and productivity training (WACSIR), quality certification, and market linkages.

The panel appointed NDA as the sole coordinating body to simplify access and avoid engaging multiple agencies.
