It was a great honour to welcome Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), together with Ms. Benedicta Lasi, Chair of the Executive Council of the Africa Governance Centre (AGC), and other distinguished members of Ghana’s governance community, to Seoul for the Inter-Continental Dialogue among Political Parties Conference.
This was not simply another official visit. It was a political dialogue between continents. And the significance of this visit goes back to Accra.
In August 2025, the Africa Governance Centre convened the inaugural African Political Parties Summit (APPS 2025) in Accra. The Summit brought together political leaders and representatives from across Africa and beyond to advance interparty dialogue, democratic governance and political cooperation. It culminated in the adoption of the Accra Declaration, marking an important step toward institutionalising political dialogue across the continent. Today, that conversation has travelled beyond Africa. From Accra to Seoul.
This is no longer a conversation confined to governments and traditional diplomacy. Political parties, democratic institutions and governance leaders are coming together across continents to exchange experiences, confront common challenges and reflect on the future of democracy.
For Ghana, this is an opportunity to bring its democratic experience and voice into a broader global conversation. And this time, a door has opened between political communities across two continents.
