A CRY FOR MERCY !
OUR WORD OF HOPE

Friday 23rd October 2026.
Scripture:
"And he cried out, saying, βJesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!β Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, βSon of David, have mercy on me!β"
-Luke 18:38-39
βοΈ Jesus was on His final journey to Jerusalem, walking toward the cross. As He approached the ancient city of Jericho, a great multitude followed Him, creating a wall of noise and excitement.
Sitting by the dusty roadside was a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46). In the ancient world, blindness often meant total destitution, dependency, and social isolation. He was an outcast, completely reliant on the benevolence of passersby. He could not see Jesus, but he could hear the commotion. When he asked what it meant, they told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by". Sensing that this was his one and only moment for transformation, Bartimaeus refused to let the opportunity slip away.
βοΈ The Revelation Behind the Cry
βAnd he cried out, saying, βJesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!ββ
While the crowd casually referred to Him as "Jesus of Nazareth" (a geographic descriptor), Bartimaeus addressed Him as "Son of David." This was a profound, politically charged Messianic title. Even though Bartimaeus was physically blind, he possessed deep spiritual sight (faith). He recognized that Jesus was the promised Messiah, the rightful King, and the Saviour who possessed the divine authority to heal.
Notice his request: he did not ask for money, or justice, or fair treatment. He cried out for mercy. Mercy is an appeal to Godβs loving-kindness and compassion. It acknowledges that we can not earn or deserve God's blessings; we throw ourselves entirely upon His goodness.
βοΈ The Hurdle of Opposition
βThen those who went before warned him that he should be quietβ¦β
As soon as Bartimaeus began to shout, the people at the front of the procession rebuked him. To the crowd, this blind beggar was an annoyance, a social disruption, and unworthy of the Masterβs limited time. They tried to silence him and push him back into the shadows. In life, whenever you decide to desperately seek the Lord, roadblocks will appear. Voices of doubt, past failures, or people around you will often tell you to be quiet and sit down.
βοΈ Holy Desperation and Persistence
ββ¦but he cried out all the more, βSon of David, have mercy on me!ββ
Instead of shrinking back in shame, the opposition only fueled Bartimaeus's determination. The scripture says he cried out "all the more." He used the crowdβs rebuke as a stepping stone to lift his voice louder. This is holy desperation. He knew his deliverance did not depend on the approval of the crowd; it depended entirely on catching the attention of the Son of David. His persistence paid offβjust a moment later, Jesus stopped in His tracks and commanded the man to be brought to Him.
βοΈ To apply the cry of mercy to our lives;
1. Recognize Your Moments of Visitation:
Jesus is always accessible, but there are seasons where the Holy Spirit prompts you to seek Him urgently. Do not let Jesus "pass by" today without presenting your heart to Him.
2. Define Your Request by Mercy:
When you approach God in prayer, drop all self-righteousness. Do not come pointing to your own works or deserving nature. Come to the throne of grace boldly, appealing strictly to His limitless mercy.
3. Overcome the Resistance of the Crowd:
Expect resistance when you seek God passionately. Distractions, exhausting schedules, or discouraging words from others will try to silence your prayers. Let opposition drive you to pray all the more.
4. Let Desperation Break Protocol:
Don't worry about looking dignified or composed when you are in need of God's intervention. True faith is desperate enough to cry out until the Master answers.
βοΈ Heavenly Father, the Almighty and All-Merciful God, we lift up our hearts to You this morning in praise and appreciation. Thank You for the gift of a new day, and thank You for Your faithfulness that never fails. We worship You because You are the Saviour, the Deliverer, and the One who is full of compassion.
Lord, we thank You that You are never too busy to hear our cry. Thank You that while the world might look at our shortcomings and tell us to be quiet, You stop to listen. We praise You because Your mercy is new every morning. Thank You for looking past our faults, our mistakes, and our unworthiness, and treating us with unconditional love.
We bless Your holy name because You have heard our quiet whispers and our desperate cries. We step into this day knowing that Your mercy surrounds us like a shield. Thank You for the assurance of answered prayers and for the healing, deliverance, and restoration You are working out in our lives in the name of Jesus.
βοΈ Wishing us all a REFRESHING WEEKEND in the name of JESUS !
Shalom Shalom !
