The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is Ghana’s National Oil Company (NOC), established in 1983 by PNDC Law 64, to support the government's objective of providing adequate and reliable supply of petroleum products and reducing the country's dependence on crude oil imports, through the development of the country’s own petroleum resources. The corporation, which started operations in 1985, is partner in all petroleum agreements in Ghana. GNPC is also the national gas sector aggregator in Ghana, and aims to supply efficient fuel to meet Ghana’s increasing energy needs.

For us at GNPC, the commercial arrangement for the Sankofa crude supply to Tema Oil Refinery Ltd. creates a local market for Ghana’s upstream production, with scope for the relationship to grow as we work to increase production and offer room within our existing supply commitments.

Chief Executive, Kwame Ntow Amoah, also sees opportunities for GNPC and TOR to deepen the partnership beyond crude supply.

GNPC supplies Sankofa crude to TOR, strengthening the link between Ghana’s upstream production and domestic refining.

Approximately 950,000 barrels of Sankofa crude have been supplied to Tema Oil Refinery Ltd. (TOR) under a commercial arrangement between the two national institutions.

GNPC Chief Executive, Kwame Ntow Amoah, joined the TOR Managing Director, Edmond Kombat, and other industry stakeholders to inspect the vessel carrying the crude.

The arrangement provides a dependable domestic market for Ghana’s crude while supporting efforts to process more of our petroleum resources locally and retain greater value within the economy.

Cleaner shores? It take all of us. 🌊

To mark this year’s International Coastal Cleanup Day, we collaborated with the Tema West Municipal Assembly and other partners at Sakumono Beach for a cleanup of one of Tema’s popular coastlines.

Caring for the environment also means taking practical action in the communities around our operations.

We are looking to build on the exercise with similar activities as we continue working with local authorities and other partners to keep our communities clean.

“Energy sector debt is as much a financial problem as it is a supply security issue.”

Discussing “Untangling the Energy Debt Cycle to Guarantee Gas Supply” at PIAC-Ghana’s Technical Consultative Workshop in Accra, Mr. Tamakloe highlighted the link between payment security and reliable gas supply.

He noted that persistent payment challenges across the energy value chain ultimately affect the ability of gas suppliers, transporters and producers to sustain supply and invest in new infrastructure.

Explaining his position further, he cited the need to strengthen downstream revenue collection, ensure sustainable and transparent cost recovery, improve institutional coordination, and establish credible payment-security mechanisms across the value chain.

He emphasised that Ghana’s focus should be on building a financially credible energy market that can support affordable, reliable and secure energy supply.

Turning Ghana's gas potential into reliable supply.

GNPC Director of Engineering, Simon Essilfie, took the conversation at PIAC-Ghana's Technical Consultative Workshop into the technical realities of sustaining Ghana's gas supply.

Presenting on upstream gas reservoir dynamics, he highlighted the need to carefully manage existing production from Jubilee, TEN and Sankofa-Gye Nyame, while addressing infrastructure bottlenecks and progressing new gas resources as well as LNG to meet growing domestic demand.

For GNPC, the task is to connect reservoir performance, infrastructure readiness and market demand as one system to support reliable and sustained gas supply for Ghana.

‘On building a resilient gas economy, the entire value chain must work.’

That was GNPC’s message at PIAC-Ghana’s Technical Consultative Workshop on Building a Resilient Gas Economy.

Our Deputy Chief Executive, Finance, Commercial & Administration, Hamis Ussif, outlined the need to strengthen gas supply, infrastructure, commercial arrangements and demand as part of one integrated system.

He said GNPC, as National Oil Company and national gas aggregator, remains committed to working with industry stakeholders on practical solutions that strengthen Ghana’s energy security and create greater economic value from the country’s gas resources.

Years of exploration work in the Voltaian Basin are moving towards their next major test.

GNPC and GNPC Explorco are stepping up preparations for the TUA 1X exploratory well at Chegu in the Mion District, as the programme moves from years of seismic acquisition and technical studies towards drilling.

The next phase as jointly confirmed, will begin with the construction of a 13.5-kilometre access road to and a rig pad at the proposed well location, alongside other site works ahead of mobilisation of the drilling rig.
