Exploring community-driven solutions for resilient coastal ecosystems.

The RGP exchange visit continued at the Bamboung Marine Protected Area (AMP Bamboung), where the delegation explored a range of sustainable livelihood initiatives that are contributing to both environmental conservation and local economic development.

The visit included women-led food processing centres, ecotourism initiatives, oyster farming, and the Honey House, highlighting how community-based enterprises can generate income while supporting the sustainable management of coastal and marine resources.

When nature thrives, communities thrive too.

The RGP exchange visit to Senegal continued at the Gandoul Marine Protected Area (AMP de Gandoul), where the delegation explored inspiring examples of community-driven ecosystem restoration. From mangrove reforestation to gardening, poultry farming in Djirnda, and ecotourism initiatives in Baradia, the visit demonstrated how conservation and livelihoods can grow together.

The exchange provided valuable insights into integrating ecosystem restoration with alternative livelihood opportunities, demonstrating how nature-based solutions can improve community well-being while safeguarding coastal ecosystems. These experiences will help inform the implementation of the Resilience Gambia Project in The Gambia.

The Resilience Gambia Project (RGP) team, led by the Director of the Central Project Coordinating Unit (CPCU), is in Senegal for a five-day exchange visit on mangrove restoration best practices.

The visit provides a valuable opportunity to learn from successful restoration initiatives, exchange knowledge with experts and practitioners, and explore innovative approaches that will strengthen mangrove restoration efforts in The Gambia.

The Central Project Coordination Unit (CPCU) of the Ministry of Environment-MECCNAR invites applications for the position of:

PROJECT COORDINATOR

Under the Resilience Gambia Project, funded by the AFD - Agence Française de Développement, the Project Coordinator will support efforts to restore mangrove ecosystems and strengthen the resilience of coastal communities in The Gambia.

Minimum Requirements

✅ Master’s degree in Environment, Social Sciences, or related field
âś… Extensive experience in environmental project management
âś… Strong coordination, leadership, and reporting skills
âś… Knowledge of mangrove conservation and climate resilience
