Over 4,000 Urban Households in The Gambia Enrolled for Nafa Cash Transfer.

Over 4,000 households have been enrolled into the Nafa Cash Transfer Program under The Gambia RISE Project, that was initiated by the government of The Gambia and supported by the World Bank.
Enrolled households are set to receive D3,000 every 2 months for 18 cycles to help cover food, health, education, and farming needs .
This Support is backed by Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) sessions to build long-term stability and self-reliance.
Beneficiaries were enrolled after community validation to ensure support reaches the right households

The National Nutrition Agency, working with the Department of Community Development and Directorate of Social Welfare is rolling this out across all 36 districts and now set for a nationwide coverage with the new expansion to the Urban areas. The goal is simple: give families a regular lifeline, ease pressure on household budgets, and restore hope.

Grassroots Impact: Better Nutrition Starts at the Local Level

At the heart of our mission are our Nutrition Field Officers (NFOs)-the vital bridge between national policy and the people we serve.
By collaborating with those who know their communities best (Community Health Nurses, CSOs, Village Support Groups, and Nursing students), we are delivering nutrition education directly to the doorstep of our people.

Highlights from the Upper River Region (URR):
Touba Wuli:Caregivers engaged in an interactive cooking demonstration, transforming "locally-sourced" everyday ingredients into nutrient-rich, life-saving meals for children under five.

Chemambugu: A true community takeover! The day began with a massive cleaning exercise and moved into the preparation of 4 different types of nutritious paps. The energy was incredible—capped off with health talks and celebratory traditional drumming.

VP Visits New NaNA FM Radio Station in Kwinella

H.E. Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow and his delegation visited the newly built NaNA FM Radio Station in Kwinella, Kiang Central, Lower River Region as part of his nationwide tour of projects under his office.

The new station comprises a Modern broadcast studio and control room for live shows, online streaming & podcasts, a recording studio for local content and SBCC programs, Solar power system for uninterrupted broadcasting and Staff quarters on site

Funded by the World Bank NaNA FM is now live on 100.1 FM and will help spread key messages on health, nutrition, and community development across LRR and beyond.

This is one of several radio stations NaNA is building, with more coming to Kaur and Basse, plus the main station at NaNA HQ in Bakau on Bertil Harding Highway.

VP Visits Refurbished Children’s Ward at Bansang Hospital

H.E. Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow and his entourage visited the newly refurbished Children’s Ward at Bansang Hospital, supported by the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA). The refurbishment was funded by UNICEF through the Japanese fund. The visit is part of the Vice President’s ongoing Nationwide Tour of projects implemented by institutions under his Purview.

The Complex comprises a fully equipped Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with incubators and advanced backup batteries for uninterrupted power supply, Modern ventilation and lighting systems for safer care and a Storage facilities for feeds for malnourished children. The ward boosts a child-friendly environment with bright paintings and toys to make young patients feel more at ease
This upgrade means better care for newborns and children across Central River Region and beyond.

Big thanks to NaNA, the Japanese fund and UNICEF and the Management and Staff of Bansang Hospital for making this possible.

VICE PRESIDENT’S NATIONWIDE TOUR 2026

Officials from the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) led by Deputy Director General Abdou Aziz Ceesay, are currently accompanying His Excellency the Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow on a three-day nationwide tour.

The tour covers key project sites implemented by institutions under the Office of the Vice President, with a focus on assessing progress, engaging beneficiaries, and strengthening service delivery.

During the tour, the Vice President and his delegation will visit:

1. Nafa / PEI Beneficiaries – to interact with households benefiting from the Nafa Cash Transfer and Productive Economic Inclusion program
2. NaNA FM Radio Station, Kwinella – to assess the station’s role in Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) and community outreach and
3. The rehabilitation of the Children ward of the Bansang Hospital in CRR by the Sanofi Grant through the UNICEF The Gambia office
4. Other NaNA-supported initiatives under the Vice President’s purview.

OBJECTIVES OF THE TOUR
1. Monitor implementation and impact of NaNA and related projects at community level.
2. Engage directly with beneficiaries to gather feedback on service delivery.
3. Strengthen coordination between central government and regional structures.
4. Highlight government’s commitment to nutrition, social protection, and resilience building.

The Vice President’s entourage includes senior officials from the Office of the Vice President, the National Nutrition Agency, and other relevant technical institutions.
