GPA POWERS HEALTHCARE

Yesterday, 9th July 2026, the Gambia Ports Authority once again answered the call to serve the nation.

GPA donated a brand new 1000 KVA Generator Set to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, The Gambia’s main referral hospital.

This timely intervention will help ensure uninterrupted power supply for critical services like surgeries, ICU, maternity, laboratories, and emergency care. No more disruptions that put lives at risk.

Presenting the generator Alh Ousman M. Jobarteh, the Managing Director, GPA reaffirmed GPA’s commitment to supporting national institutions that save lives and serve every Gambian.

“At GPA, we believe that a strong port means a stronger nation. And a stronger nation means better health for our people.”

GPA Extends Support to Bansang Hospital with Medical Supplies and D100,000 Donation at the Inauguration of the Newly Built accident and emergency unit

The Gambia Ports Authority has once again demonstrated its commitment to national development and community welfare. Through the FABB Foundation, GPA donated essential medical items and a cash sum of One Hundred Thousand Dalasis (D100,000) to Bansang Hospital to help strengthen healthcare delivery in the Central River Region. The donation forms part of GPA’s Corporate Social Responsibility to support health institutions across the country.

The presentation ceremony was graced by Her Excellency, the First Lady of The Gambia,Hon. Minister of Information,the Governor of WCR, senior government officials, and the Alkalo of Bansang, Representing the Managing Director of the Gambia Ports Authority was Mr. Landing Sanyang, Deputy Director of Corporate Services and Business Development Department. Their presence highlighted the national importance of investing in healthcare and supporting facilities that serve thousands of Gambians.

Speaking briefly at the inaugural ceremony, the Deputy Director of Corporate Services recognised the importance of GPA’s contribution towards The First Lady’s development initiatives for the people in the region.

The Gambia Ports Authority has once again demonstrated its commitment to national development by fulfilling its dividend obligation. On 24th June 2026, GPA paid D70 million to the Government of The Gambia in a ceremony held at the State House. This milestone reflects GPA’s strong financial performance and its role as a key revenue contributor to the national treasury.

The auspicious occasion was graced by His Excellency President Adama Barrow,Cabinet Ministers, the Chairman of the SOE Commission, the GPA Board Chairman, GPA Management, and other senior government officials. Their presence underscored the importance of Gambia Ports Authority as a strategic state enterprise driving trade, employment, and economic growth for our country.

This D70 million dividend is more than a financial transaction, it’s an investment in schools, healthcare, roads, and services that touch every Gambian. GPA remains committed to operational excellence, transparency, and supporting The Gambia’s development agenda.

PRESS RELEASE
ALPORT STAFF HUMAN RESOURCE MATTERS

In response to the recent information being circulated regarding the GPA and Alport's failure to comply with the Government directive to address staff welfare matters is false and unfounded. The general public is hereby informed that staff welfare matters have been resolved, and the following measures are being implemented by GPA and Alport:

1. A joint HR Committee was constituted by GPA and Alport with representatives from GPA, Alport, and the Alport Staff Association to address all staff welfare matters.

2. Staff salaries and other entitlements for the months of April and May 2026 were paid on time.

3. Disbursement of miscellaneous and personal loans was done before the Tobaski.

4. GPA and Alport have signed off on the HR Resolution to resolve staff welfare concerns.

5. The issue of overtime payments was resolved with added benefits.

The Gambia Ports Authority proudly congratulates Mr. Bubacarr Ceesay, Chief Pilot & Deputy Port Facility Security Officer and Mr. Almameh Y. Manneh Snr. Electrical Engineer of the Estate&Civil Engineering Department and Staff Association President on their participation in a Seminar on Ports and Waterway Planning and Construction for developing countries.

The seminar was organized by the People’s Republic of China through China’s Ministry of Commerce in Collaboration with The Gambia’s Ministry of Transportation, works and Infrastructure.

The programme provided insights into Vessel Traffic Management Systems (VTS), navigation, port automation, port energy efficiency, port hydrology, and AI-driven digitalization. It also included visits to the world’s second-largest automated ports in Ningbo Zhoushan port and Qingdao Port and and study tour of the Qingdao Harbour Vocational and Technical College.
As part of the Seminar, the duo also participated in the 10th edition of the Maritime Silk Road Port Cooperation Forum, 2026 held in Ningbo and a side event on China-Africa Friendship Cities and Ports Cooperation.
