A healthy livestock sector begins with one critical step—early and accurate disease diagnosis.

For years, the Veterinary Laboratory has played a vital role in protecting animal health across The Gambia. However, modern diagnostic facilities are essential for responding quickly to disease outbreaks and safeguarding livestock.

Through the Small Ruminant Production Enhancement Project (SRPEP), the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Veterinary Laboratory has strengthened the Department of Livestock Services' capacity to test, diagnose, and respond to animal diseases more effectively.

In this video, the Deputy Director General of Veterinary Services expresses appreciation for SRPEP's support, highlighting how the improved laboratory is enhancing veterinary services, strengthening disease surveillance, and contributing to healthier livestock and more resilient farming communities.

Because protecting animal health is not only about treating diseases, it's about protecting livelihoods, strengthening food security, and securing the future of livestock production in The Gambia.

Ashurah is one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar, reminding believers of the importance of faith, patience, sacrifice, and devotion to Allah. It is a day to remember Allah's mercy, seek forgiveness, and reflect on the values that unite our communities.

As Muslims commemorate this sacred day, the Small Ruminant Production Enhancement Project (SRPEP) extends its heartfelt wishes to all Muslims.

May Allah (SWT) fill our hearts with peace, strengthen our faith, forgive our shortcomings, and bless our families, communities, and nation with prosperity and well-being.

Water is life 💧💦not only for people, but for livestock too.

For Mahamadou Jallow and many other livestock farmers, access to water was once a daily struggle that affected the health and productivity of their animals. Long distances and limited water sources made livestock farming more challenging and less profitable.

Today, thanks to the water facility provided through the Small Ruminant Production Enhancement Project (SRPEP), that story is changing.

With reliable access to water, livestock are healthier, farmers spend less time searching for water, and more time focusing on growing their herds. The result is improved productivity, increased income, and better livelihoods for farming families.

In this video, Mahamadou shares how a simple but essential resource is helping transform livestock production in his community and creating new opportunities for the future.

Strong livestock infrastructure is laying the foundation for a more productive and resilient small ruminant sector across The Gambia.

Through the Small Ruminant Production Enhancement Project (SRPEP), livestock farmers are benefiting from strategic investments in critical infrastructure, including solar-powered boreholes, livestock markets, mini dairies, breeding facilities, fattening centres, slaughterhouses, veterinary drug outlets, community pasture fields, and training facilities.

These investments are improving access to water, animal health services, markets, and modern production facilities, helping farmers increase productivity, improve livestock management practices, and strengthen their livelihoods.

By creating an enabling environment for livestock production, SRPEP is supporting sustainable growth in the sector while contributing to food security, employment creation, and economic development across the country.
