Quality fertilizer, closer to every farmer. 🌱

Access to quality fertilizer should never be a barrier to a successful harvest.

In this testimonial, Pa Jobe, a private fertilizer trader, explains how the National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC) is working with authorized private dealers to ensure that farmers across The Gambia have access to genuine, high-quality fertilizer, closer to their communities and at an affordable, regulated price.

Unlike in the past, when farmers travelled long distances in search of fertilizer, the expanded distribution network is bringing quality inputs within easy reach, saving farmers time, reducing costs, and helping them prepare for a productive farming season.

Through this initiative, NFSPMC continues to strengthen food security by making quality agricultural inputs more accessible, giving farmers the support they need to achieve healthier crops, higher yields, and better harvests.

🌾 Quality fertilizer today means quality harvests tomorrow.

🚨 Protect What Is Meant for Our Farmers 🇬🇲

Every bag of subsidized fertilizer represents the Government's investment in Gambian farmers and our nation's food security.

It is intended exclusively for use within The Gambia and must not be exported or smuggled across the country's borders.

The sale, transportation, or facilitation of subsidized fertilizer for cross-border trade is illegal.

Let's protect this national investment, support our farmers, and work together to build a food-secure The Gambia.

The Government of The Gambia, under the leadership of His Excellency President Adama Barrow, continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to supporting farmers through the nationwide sale of subsidized fertilizer at D1,100 per bag and the free distribution of organic fertilizer across the country.

During his inspection of fertilizer depots in Barra, Kerewan, and Kuntaur, Honourable Minister Dr. Demba Sabally issued a strong warning against the illegal transportation of subsidized fertilizer across the country's borders. He stressed that the fertilizer is exclusively meant for Gambian farmers and should only be used on farms within The Gambia.

The Minister called on all citizens to remain vigilant, emphasizing that the Government has invested enormous resources to make these inputs affordable and accessible. He noted that allowing unscrupulous individuals to smuggle fertilizer out of the country is no different from allowing someone to rob the Central Bank, as it deprives Gambian farmers of the support intended to boost national food production and food security.

🌱 Multiplying Innovation. Growing the Future.

The National Food Security Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC) has taken another important step towards strengthening groundnut seed production by handing over some of its improved groundnut seed variety to a master farmer of Njaba K***a, Central Baddibu.

Having successfully multiplied this improved variety, NFSPMC is now working with trusted master farmers to further expand its multiplication during the rainy season. This collaborative approach will help increase the availability of quality seed for farmers across the country in the seasons ahead.

Developed to enhance productivity and improve farmers' returns, this improved groundnut variety is expected to play a key role in supporting sustainable agricultural growth and strengthening food security in The Gambia.

At NFSPMC, every seed multiplied today is an investment in a more productive, resilient, and prosperous future for Gambian agriculture.

NFSPMC is conducting a nationwide exercise to sign Fertilizer Agreements with Cooperative Produce Marketing Societies (CPMS/SECCOs) as part of preparations for the 2026 farming season.

The agreement-signing process is being carried out in close collaboration with Regional Governors, District Chiefs, Village Alkalolu, and other local stakeholders to promote transparency, accountability, and community ownership.

These agreements pave the way for the distribution of subsidised fertiliser to farmers across the country, reaffirming the Government's commitment to increasing agricultural productivity, strengthening food security, and improving the livelihoods of farming communities throughout The Gambia.
