Today, the Peace, Security and Justice Officer of the National Youth Council, Omar Bah, held a dynamic engagement session with participants of the 16th Batch of the NYSS TVET Program.

The NYSS TVET Program continues to equip young Gambians with technical and vocational skills to become self-reliant, employable, and active contributors to national development. As these young people prepare to enter different sectors, it is critical that they also understand their civic responsibility.

Mr. Bah’s presentation centered on 3 foundational pillars:

1. The Mandate of the National Youth Council

2. The Role of Young People in Nation Building

3. The Role of Young People in Maintaining Peace and Security

Mr. Bah told the participants that they are not just the leaders of tomorrow , they are the builders, innovators, and peacekeepers of today. The development and stability of our nation depends on how we show up right now.

National Youth Council at the Ministry’s Second Quarter Intra-Sectoral Retreat

The Executive Director of the National Youth Council (NYC) is participating in the Ministry of Youth & Sports’ three-day Second Quarter Intra-Sectoral Retreat, bringing together the Ministry’s leadership, departments, agencies and satellite institutions to assess progress, strengthen coordination and reaffirm institutional commitments.

As a key satellite institution under the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Youth Council plays a critical role in translating the Government’s youth development priorities into programmes, policies and interventions that respond to the aspirations and realities of young people across The Gambia.

The participation of the Executive Director provides an important platform for the Council to reflect on its performance, share progress, identify emerging challenges and strengthen alignment between NYC’s mandate and the broader strategic direction of the Ministry.

STATEMENT BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF THE GAMBIA ON INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY

Dear Young People of The Gambia,

Today, we celebrate not just the potential of young Gambians but the contribution, resilience and service they already give to our nation. From classrooms to communities, farms to businesses, sports to innovation, young Gambians are shaping the country in countless ways. Nation-building is about choosing to serve, creating opportunities, supporting others, standing for peace and believing in The Gambia even when the journey is difficult.

As we celebrate you, we also remind ourselves that loving our nation means more than carrying its flag it means serving the people behind it.

The National Youth Council remains committed to ensuring that young people are heard, trusted, represented and meaningfully engaged in shaping our country’s future.

Happy International Youth Day to every young Gambian. May we be remembered not only for what we received from The Gambia, but for what we gave back to her. Let us love our nation by serving it, and build a Gambia we can all be proud to call home.
