As part of our newly launched Waste-to-Energy Biogas project, the Basse Area Council also conducted an online, in-house and on-site practical training session for beneficiary school teachers, students, community members, civic society organisations and council knowledge carriers on the project's implementation and operation.

The participants displayed strong commitment towards what many of them described as a game-changer for the management of the waste generated from our homes, markets, offices, and schools.

The training undertaken by a technical expert from the OEKOBIT GROUP in Germany, provided them with practical experience on how to install the system, feed it with the generated waste, digest it, and understand how it produces the final product.

The Basse Area Council through the Honourable Chairman, Mahamadou Ceesay, is delighted to announce the successful launch, installation and implementation of its Waste-to-Energy Biogas project.

This project, fully funded by the Council, aims to recycle animal and organic waste into clean gas for cooking. This reduces reliance on charcoal and firewood, protects our forests, and promotes cleaner communities, healthier families, and a greener Upper River Region through effective waste management.

The pilot begins at selected schools in the region, including Koba K***a and Diabugu Lower Basic Schools, while educating the next generation to become ambassadors for environmental protection and sustainable living.

Special thanks to Rotary International, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy, and OEKOBIT GROUP for their technical and logistical support in ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

The Chairperson of the Basse Area Council, Honourable Mahamadou Ceesay, together with his Vice Chairman, Honourable Abubacarr M. Danjo, and several regional authorities, made an assessment visit to several villages affected by flooding caused by heavy rainfall on Friday afternoon in Wuli District.

The Chairman and his team visited Jaka Madina, Chamoi, Barrow K***a, and Baja K***a to show solidarity with the victims affected by the torrential rain, assess the extent of the damage, and pay tribute to the families of those who lost their lives in the events of the rains.

The Council now awaits the conclusion of the official assessment from the relevant bodies, including the National Disaster Management Agency and the Gambia Red Cross Society, to determine the support needed for the victims during these difficult times.

The first of the eight water borehole projects by the Basse Area Council has been successfully installed and completed at Sinchu Sura village in Sare Ngai Ward as their women and children fetch water with smiles on their faces.

The village, which has long struggled to access clean drinking water, was forced to trek kilometres to find it. Now, they have secured highly capable water tanks, 11 running taps across the village, and a solar-powered system to supply water uninterruptedly, thanks to the Council.

When the project was announced, with his village as one of the beneficiaries, the village Alkalo, in disbelief of this life-changing project, visited the Council to still seek support. Today, he is the happiest man.

After drilling all of the other seven sites, the installation of the systems will now continue to complete the entire first phase of the URR Water Project fully funded by the Council, and the public will be kept informed.

The Basse Area Council wishes to announce to all interested bidders that the deadline for the Request for Quotations (RFQ) for the construction of the Basse Mini Stadium pitch and perimeter fence has been extended to 8th July 2026 at 12:00 noon.

This decision follows a thorough review of the project requirements and technical considerations necessary to ensure the delivery of quality and durable infrastructure. The extension will now provide an opportunity for qualified and competent bidders to submit proposals that meet the required standards for this monumental project.

The Council remains fully committed to a transparent and competitive procurement process. After several months of consideration, we wish to assure the public that this extension is expected to mark the final phase of the bidding process.

Upon completion of all required procedures and evaluations, the most suitable bidder will be awarded the contract, paving the way for construction works to commence as soon as possible.

The Basse Area Council on Saturday, June 20, 2026, held its fourth statutory General Council meeting of the year, presided over by the Vice Chairperson, Honourable Abubacarr M. Danjo.

The Council discussed several agenda items, including the status of pending projects, an update on the Expenditure and Income Statements for the first quarter, and an activity report from the Chief Executive Officer as head of administration.

The Basse Area Council has successfully launched the first phase of the Upper River Region Water Project 2026 on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Council's premises.

The event, attended by various community leaders and regional authorities, has seen eight (8) communities benefit from the first phase, drawn from the 14 wards.

The eight communities benefitting from this phase of the fully funded project by the Council include;

Promised & Delivered!

The people of URR demanded water as their most urgent need from the Council, and the Basse Area Council, under the leadership of Chairman Mahamadou Ceesay, is delivering water to eight (8) communities at a go in the first phase of the BSAC Water Project 2026. The largest water intervention in the history of the Council.

The borehole materials for all eight communities arrived in Basse on Friday morning and were received by the Chief Executive Officer, Momodou Sambou.

The official launch of the project will take place soon with the unveiling of the confirmed beneficiary communities after an assessment with the ward committees, and work will commence in due course.๏ฟผ
