GMA Management Undergoes Communication Strategy Training

The Management of the Gambia Maritime Administration (GMA) yesterday 12 August 2026, participated in a Communication Strategy Training held at the GMA Training Room.

The training was conducted by Mrs. Rohey Samba-Jallow, Consultant engaged to support the development of the GMA Communication Strategy.

The session provided an opportunity for Management to reflect on the importance of strategic communication in strengthening the Administrationโ€™s public image, improving stakeholder engagement, promoting transparency and ensuring consistent communication of GMAโ€™s mandate and activities.

Discussions focused on key areas of effective institutional communication, including strategic messaging, internal and external communication, stakeholder engagement, media relations, crisis communication and the importance of maintaining a coordinated approach to communicating the GMAโ€™s work.

The training forms part of the broader process towards developing a comprehensive Communication Strategy for the Gambia Maritime Administration, aimed at strengthening the institutionโ€™s communication systems and enhancing public understanding of its role in promoting maritime safety, security, environmental protection and the sustainable development of The Gambiaโ€™s maritime sector.

GMA remains committed to strengthening its communication capacity and ensuring that its engagement with stakeholders and the public is clear, coordinated, timely and strategic.

The Gambia Maritime Administration (GMA) today held a stakeholder validation session for its Communication Strategy, bringing together key actors from across the maritime sector to review the strategic framework, discuss key findings and provide recommendations towards finalising the document.

The session was attended by GMA officials, including Director General Olimatou Danso Malang, alongside Senior Management of GMA, as well as representatives from Government Agencies, Boat Oprators and Media Personnel.

In her opening remarks, the Director General highlighted the importance of the validation process in ensuring that the Communication Strategy responds to the needs of the Administration and its diverse stakeholders.

Presenting the strategy, Consultant Rohey Samba Jallow emphasised that effective communication must be a two-way process built on engagement and feedback. She noted that many of the stakeholders present had already contributed during the baseline assessment and gap analysis, with their perspectives helping to shape the strategy.

She further stressed the specialised nature of the maritime sector and the importance of ensuring that GMAโ€™s communication is aligned with maritime requirements, safety standards and governance principles, including areas such as crisis communication.

The productive session provided stakeholders with an opportunity to understand the strategic framework and key findings, while putting forward proposals and recommendations where necessary.

The feedback gathered will contribute to refining the Communication Strategy into a practical document that strengthens both internal communication within GMA and engagement with stakeholders across The Gambiaโ€™s maritime sector.
