I recently had the incredible opportunity to attend a two-day session focused on enhancing women's participation in decision-making positions in The Gambia. This event was not just a gathering; it was a powerful movement aimed at inspiring change and empowering women to step into leadership roles across various sectors, from politics to business. I am Binta Senghore, serving as the Youth Councilor in the Brikama Area Council. I advocate for policies and initiatives that promote women and youth participation in leadership and decision-making. I believe we can create a country where women have the opportunity to lead and influence change. I'm working to pass the quota system bill to increase women's representation in parliament and LGAs. I recognize the vulnerability of women, especially in markets and politics, and I am committed to empowering them.

The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) World Congress held in Turkey under the theme "Democracy Under Pressure, Youth, Social Justice, and Political Alternative in Africa," likely focused on critical issues affecting democratic governance, social justice, and the political landscape in Africa.

This year served as a vibrant gathering of over 200 young people from around the globe, uniting passionate individuals dedicated to addressing pressing issues of injustice and promoting democratic values.

As a representative of the United Democratic Party Youth Wing at the IUSY world congress, who believe in democracy, freedom and social justice, I am deeply committed to served as a testament to the strength of the younger generation’s commitment to pursuing justice and democracy, inspiring all who attended to continue their fight for a better future.

The congress provided a fertile ground for intercultural dialogue and collaboration among youth leaders, activists, and representatives from various political backgrounds.

Today, we come together to celebrate International Women’s Day, a powerful reminder of the progress we have made in advancing women’s rights and a call to action for the work that still lies ahead. As a young advocate for women’s representation and leadership, I am inspired by the incredible contributions of Gambian women throughout history and invigorated by the potential we have to shape the future.

Women play vital roles in every aspect of our society from politics and business to science and the arts. Yet, we still see a glaring underrepresentation of women in leadership positions, which limits the diversity of perspectives and ideas that drive innovation and progress. It’s time to change that narrative.

Today, I urge each of you to reflect on how we can uplift and amplify the voices of women in our communities. Whether it’s through mentorship, advocacy, or simply being an ally, we all have a part to play in fostering an environment where women can thrive and lead.

Let us celebrate the achievements of women who have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations. Let us also recommit ourselves to the journey ahead, advocating for policies and initiatives that promote gender equality and inclusivity in all spaces. Together we can create a world where women not only have a seat at the table but also have the opportunity to lead and influence change.
On this Day, let's honor the women who inspire us and empower one another to continue striving for a more equitable future.

With hope and determination💯🇬🇲🙏

As the youth representative at the Brikama area council (BAC), it is truly an honor to witness yet another milestone in our journey toward sustainable development – the third disbursement of the Brikama Area Council ( BAC)Ward Development Fund, an under the leadership of chairman Yankuba Darboe. This allocation serves as a testament to our collective commitment to fostering growth and innovation within our community.

The disbursement reflects our ongoing dedication to enhancing the lives of every resident in the ward. With these funds, we can support various projects that address the specific needs of our constituents, particularly the youth, women, and vulnerable populations. It is our responsibility to ensure that these resources are utilized effectively and transparently, paving the way for initiatives that promote education, health, infrastructure, and local entrepreneurship.

Having a say in how these funds are allocated is empowering. As a youth rep, I am excited about the opportunity to advocate for programs that resonate with our younger generation. Whether it's supporting skills training workshops, improving access to recreational facilities, or investing in technology for our schools, my goal is to ensure that the voices of young people are heard and prioritized in our developmental strategy.

This disbursement is not just a financial transaction; it is a commitment to our future. Let us embrace this opportunity with hope and determination, working hand-in-hand to build a Community that we can all take pride in. Thank you to everyone involved in making this possible, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact this funding will have on our community!
