Today, we celebrate the strength, dedication, and resilience of our women farmers who continue to play a vital role in building sustainable communities.

As part of the second phase of our project, we recently conducted a monitoring visit in , where we carried out the turning of our organic . This activity is an important step in improving our local ’ soil fertility, while supporting sustainable farming practices.

It is always inspiring to see our women actively engaged, learning, and contributing their knowledge and hard work to ensure the success of the project. Their commitment reminds us that empowering women especially in agriculture is key to achieving food security and community development.

On this International Women’s Day, we these incredible women who are nurturing the land, strengthening their communities, and paving the way for a more sustainable future🌱💚

We continued our compost training in CRR, this time in , empowering our small-scale women farmers to reduce their reliance on chemical fertilizers through sustainable compost production.

These women farmers, participated in both interactive discussions and hands-on sessions, learning how to turn locally available materials into nutrient-rich organic compost using the following:

➡️ Animal dung (cow, sheep, poultry)
➡️ Plant remains
➡️ Sawdust
➡️ Groundnut shells

Participants went through theory and practical sessions on proper layering and management techniques to produce high-quality compost that improves soil fertility and reduces community waste.

The enthusiasm and active participation in Mamud Fana were truly encouraging.

We recently launched a training in the rural Gambia, to support local small-scale farmers in and , to reduce their reliance on chemical fertilizers by training them to manufacture their own compost using domestic and environmental waste.

The training began in where we combined both theoretical sessions and practical demonstrations, giving these small-scale farmers hands-on experience in producing compost using the natural composting method.

During the practical sessions, farmers learned how to properly combine locally available organic materials such as:

➡️ Animal dung (sheep, poultry, and cow)
➡️ Plant remains
➡️ Sawdust
➡️ Groundnut shells

These materials were layered and managed correctly to produce high-quality organic compost that improves soil fertility, supports sustainable agriculture, and reduces waste in the community.

The engagement and enthusiasm
in Kalagie was amazing. Farmers actively took part in mixing, layering, watering, and understanding the composting process from start to finish.

This initiative not only promotes sustainable farming practices but also empowers the community with practical knowledge to turn waste into valuable resources.

AIH AT THE YOUTH INVESTMENT IN AGRI-FOOD SYSTEMS FORUM

This week, Agro Incubation Hub was represented at a two-day national forum on Youth Investment in Agri-Food Systems Transformation and the official launch of the World Food Forum Gambia Chapter, hosted by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in partnership with Gambia Tech Project, Alliance Francais, and World Food Forum

The forum brought together key from across the Agri-food value chain to discuss challenges, highlight existing solutions, and explore how innovative technology can strengthen food systems. reaffirmed its commitment to championing resilient and sustainable Agri-food practices for a transformed future.

We celebrate the launch of the Gambia Chapter - an important platform empowering young people to co-create local and global solutions in line with +4 commitments.

As a key stakeholder, we remain dedicated to supporting the advancement of these goals.

🌍 AGRO INCUBATION HUB PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL WASTE MANAGEMENT CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP

We are proud to have been represented by Fernando Gomez at a national workshop organized through United Nations Development Programme - UNDP and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), focused on enhancing capacities in municipal waste management, resource efficiency, and circular economy practices.

The event brought together a diverse mix of stakeholders, municipal authorities, environmental institutions, youth-led groups, and community-based organizations - all committed to advancing a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Gambia.

Feenando’s participation provided valuable insights into:

♻️ Integrated waste management systems
🌱 Recycling and composting models
🔄 Circular economy approaches that create environmental and economic opportunities, particularly for youth and women.

This engagement reinforces our ongoing commitment to promoting waste-to-compost innovations, climate-smart solutions, and community-driven sustainability initiatives across the country.

We look forward to building stronger partnerships that help transform waste into value and drive green growth in The Gambia.

constitute over 50% of the agricultural labour force in The Gambia, and for decades, these women farmers have worked tirelessly under the scorching sun, cultivating the same soil that has sustained generations, yet given back less with each passing year.

Trapped in cycles of low yields, limited resources, and the worsening impacts of climate change, these women have often been dismissed as “illiterate” or “unskilled.” But what they truly lack in access, they make up for in , , and the will to . These women deserve better, and we are committed to creating that avenue.

At Agro Incubation Hub (AIH), we are working to rewrite this story, empowering these women through practical training on sustainable farming techniques, one of which includes compost production and sustainable soil management, by turning organic waste into nutrient-rich compost, to enable them to reclaim hope for a better harvest season. This initiative is more than a training program for us, it is a movement towards a circular economy, environmental stewardship, and women-led community transformation.
