National Action Plan Against Trafficking in Persons 2026–2030 (NAP-TIP)

The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) is pleased to make available the **National Action Plan Against Trafficking in Persons 2026–2030 (NAP-TIP 2026–2030).

The NAP-TIP 2026–2030 provides a strategic framework for strengthening national efforts to prevent trafficking in persons, protect and support victims, prosecute perpetrators, and strengthen partnerships and coordination among relevant stakeholders.

The Plan sets out key priorities, actions, responsibilities, and implementation mechanisms to guide The Gambia's collective response to trafficking in persons over the 2026–2030 period.

Conclusion of the Three-Day Technical Review and Drafting Workshop on The Gambia's National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy
The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) has successfully concluded a three-day Technical Review and Drafting Workshop on The Gambia's National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy.
The final day of the workshop focused on strengthening the implementation framework of the strategy, including the implementation architecture, revitalisation of the National Task Force on Trafficking in Persons, and clarification of roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders. Participants examined practical realities, institutional capacities, and the reforms and priorities required to ensure effective implementation of the strategy.
Discussions also highlighted key operational priorities, the pathway towards formal adoption of the strategy, as well as the development of a robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework and Resource Mobilisation Strategy to support sustainable implementation.

Participants emphasized the critical role of a strengthened and coordinated National Task Force in driving the implementation of the TIP+ Strategy through improved collaboration, information sharing, accountability, and joint action among relevant institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, and other stakeholders.

The workshop provided an important platform for stakeholders to review, refine, and contribute technical recommendations towards developing a comprehensive national framework aligned with the ECOWAS TIP+ Strategy and responsive to emerging trafficking challenges.

NAATIP remains committed to strengthening national efforts to prevent trafficking in persons, protect victims, enhance prosecution, and promote effective partnerships towards ending human trafficking in The Gambia.

Day Two: Technical Review and Drafting Workshop on The Gambia's National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy.

The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) today continued the second day of the Technical Review and Drafting Workshop on The Gambia's National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy.

The day's session focused on the consultant's presentation of the proposed Vision, Mission, Goal, Guiding Principles, and Strategic Priorities that will shape the new national strategy. Participants also reviewed the key strategic and operational components designed to establish a comprehensive and coordinated national framework that is aligned with the ECOWAS Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy.

The three-day workshop continues to provide an important platform for collaborative planning, ensuring that The Gambia's National TIP+ Strategy is inclusive, practical, and responsive to the evolving challenges of trafficking in persons.

Day One: Technical Review and Drafting Workshop on The Gambia's National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy

The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) today commenced a three-day Technical Review and Drafting Workshop on The Gambia's National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy. The workshop brings together members of the National Task Force on Trafficking in Persons from various government institutions, civil society organisations (CSOs), and development partners to collaboratively review and draft the National TIP+ Strategy aimed at strengthening the country's response to trafficking in persons.

Delivering the opening statement, Dr. Reuben Lewis, Programme Specialist at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), expressed his pleasure at returning to the Smiling Coast of Africa and thanked the NAATIP team for their continued partnership, as well as the technical participants for their commitment to the process. He emphasized that the document under review is a national strategy that will serve as a guiding framework for The Gambia's efforts to prevent and combat trafficking in persons. He encouraged participants to actively contribute their knowledge and expertise throughout the workshop, stressing that every stakeholder has an important role to play in developing a comprehensive and practical strategy that reflects the country's priorities and aspirations.

Delivering the welcoming remarks on behalf of the Executive Director of NAATIP, Mr. Momodou Drammeh, Programme Officer, warmly welcomed the ICMPD team and members of the National Task Force. He underscored the importance of the workshop, noting that the development of the National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy represents a significant step towards strengthening trafficking prevention and enhancing the national response mechanisms in The Gambia. He encouraged participants to make meaningful contributions and provide constructive technical input to ensure the strategy reflects the country's priorities and realities evolving challenges of trafficking in persons.

During the technical session, the consultant, Mr. Masanneh Ceesay, presented the progress made in the development of the strategy and guided participants through six key workstreams that had been completed for technical review. These workstreams included the input analysis, workshop report, vulnerability profile, legal and institutional analysis, implementation architecture, and the monitoring and evaluation framework. Participants engaged in detailed discussions and provided valuable recommendations and technical inputs that will contribute to refining and finalising a comprehensive National Trafficking in Persons Plus (TIP+) Strategy that will strengthen prevention, protection, prosecution, partnerships, and coordinated responses to trafficking in persons in The Gambia.

COMMEMORATION OF WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS 2026 & LAUNCH OF THE NATIONAL ACTION PLAN AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS (NAP-TIP) 2026-2030 AND THE TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS TRAINING MANUAL

Theme: "Trapped Behind the Scam"

Today, the National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP), in collaboration with its development partners, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders, commemorated the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons under the global theme "Trapped Behind the Scam." The event also marked the official launch of The Gambia's National Action Plan Against Trafficking in Persons (NAP-TIP) 2016-2030 and the Trafficking in Persons Training Manual, two significant milestones that will strengthen the country's coordinated response to human trafficking.
The programme commenced with an official welcome address by the Executive Director of NAATIP, Mrs. Isatou Dabo, who warmly welcomed representatives from government institutions, diplomatic missions, development partners, civil society organizations, the media, and all participants.
In her remarks, Ms .Dabo emphasized that the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is not merely a day of commemoration but a moment for reflection and renewed commitment. She stressed that combating trafficking in persons is a shared responsibility that requires collective action throughout the year, not only during commemorative events. She called on every individual and institution to play their respective roles in preventing trafficking, protecting survivors, prosecuting offenders, and supporting the reintegration of victims into society.
Ms . Dabo further expressed her sincere appreciation to the Government of The Gambia development partners, civil society organizations, law enforcement agencies, and all NAATIP staff for their unwavering commitment and continued support in the fight against trafficking in persons
Delivering a statement on behalf of the United Nations, UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Karl-Fredrik Paul commended the Government of The Gambia and the Ministry of Justice for their continued leadership in addressing trafficking in persons through NAATIP. He acknowledged that trafficking in persons remains a serious transnational organized crime requiring sustained collaboration among governments, international organizations, and communities.
Mr. Paul reaffirmed the United Nations' commitment to supporting The Gambia through the PROMISE Project and other initiatives aimed at strengthening legislation, institutional capacity, victim protection, and prevention efforts to effectively combat trafficking in persons.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr. Abdoulie Colley, Registrar General, on behalf of the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Justice. He commended the leadership of NAATIP, particularly Executive Director Ms Isatou Dabo, for her dedication and achievements in advancing the national anti-trafficking agenda.
Mr. Colley highlighted several strategic priorities of the NAP-TIP 2015-2030 to further strengthen the national response, including:
• Establishment of a dedicated shelter for child victims of trafficking.
• Development of a centralized data management system to improve coordination and information sharing.
• Strengthening prosecution efforts, including plans for dedicated prosecutorial support for trafficking cases.
• Continued institutional strengthening of NAATIP to effectively implement its mandate.
He subsequently officially launched the National Action Plan Against Trafficking in Persons (NAP-TIP) 2016-2030 and the Trafficking in Persons Training Manual, describing both documents as essential tools that will guide national prevention, protection, prosecution, partnership, and capacity-building efforts.
A technical presentation on the NAP-TIP and the Trafficking in Persons Training Manual was delivered by Mr Massaneh Landing Ceesay of C-MER consulting and Ms. Abimbola Adewumi, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer from UNODC respectively .

A high-level panel discussion on the global theme "Trapped Behind the Scam" explored the growing use of deception, fraudulent recruitment, online scams, and false promises that traffickers use to exploit vulnerable individuals. Panelists discussed emerging trafficking trends, prevention strategies, victim identification, and the importance of strengthening collaboration among all stakeholders. The discussion concluded with an engaging interactive question-and-answer session involving participants.
The programme concluded with a solidarity message and vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Ebrima Bah of the Gambia Police Force on behalf of the Chairperson of the NAATIP Board. he reaffirmed the Board of Directors's unwavering commitment to combating trafficking in persons and pledged continued collaboration with NAATIP and all partners to bring perpetrators to justice and protect victims. He also commended Executive Director Mrs. Isatou Dabo for her steadfast leadership and dedication in championing the fight against human trafficking.
As The Gambia joins the international community in commemorating this important day, NAATIP calls upon all citizens, communities, institutions, and partners to remain vigilant and work together to prevent trafficking in persons. Together, we can build a society where no one is deceived, exploited, or left "Trapped Behind the Scam."

NAATIP Hosts Radio Talk Show Ahead of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons – July 30

Theme: Trapped behind the Scam.

The National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP) today hosted a radio talk show in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at West Coast Radio as part of activities leading up to the commemoration of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30.

The radio engagement provided a platform to discuss key issues surrounding trafficking in persons, including prevention strategies, victim protection, the role of communities in identifying and reporting cases, and the importance of collective efforts in combating this crime.

As the world prepares to observe this important day, NAATIP continues to strengthen awareness campaigns and partnerships with stakeholders to promote a society free from human trafficking and exploitation.
