A part of LIFE AMYBEAR 's goals is being continued through the LIFE Safe-Crossing project!
The LIFE AMYBEAR project deals with the recorded increase in the number of cases of human-bear interaction in the Municipality of Amyntaio and the Municipality of Florina in Greece. This "interaction" creates problems that have been known for many years, such as damage to the agricultural economy (livestock, beekeeping, crops), but also others that have been observed relatively recently with considerable intensity, such as the approach of bears to settlements or the increase in road accidents involving bears. 🐻
At the same time, in addition to negative interactions, positive interactions have already been identified, such as the development of ecotourism around the Aetos-Nymfaio axis, mainly due to the existence of the Bear Protection Center in the area.
In this context, LIFE AMYBEAR has implemented management actions to improve the conditions of human-bear coexistence in the area. Its results include both the reduction of tolerable levels of negative interactions and the enhancement and dissemination of socio-economic benefits and know-how, which implies the presence and coexistence of the bear with humans in the area.
LIFE AMYBEAR was completed in November 2021.
