FAIM2025 Call for papers.

MaSys group participated earlier in April this year ESAFORM 2024 Conference in Toulouse, France.

We presented a paper based on the work of Vassiliki Iliopoulou on a case study of Bazigos SA, namely:

Injection molding control parameter assessment by nested Taguchi design of simulation experiments: a case study.
The paper was published in Materials Research Proceedings, doi: 10.21741/9781644903131-302.

We have undertaken to organise ESAFORM2026 in Greece !

ESAFORM is a non-profit scientific association. It was founded in January 1997 with the aim to propagate interest for all types of materials and all topics connected to Material Forming.

This year, FAIM 2024 was held in Taichung, Taiwan. We presented four papers.

Two were presented by P. Benardos:
(1) Integration of a NLP-based Industrial Robot Programming System
(2) On enhancing legacy CNC Machine Tools for Process Monitoring and Cloud Integration in Industry

Another two papers were presented by G. Vosniakos:
(1) An open Extended Reality platform supporting dynamic robot paths for studying human- robot collaboration in manufacturing
(2) Development of a Friction Welding System for CNC Lathes.

Taiwan has an impressive industrial base, so we were able to visit Gigabyte, Victor (machine tools) and (Turvo precision turning).

In 2023 MaSys group participated in 32nd Flexible Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing Conference held in Porto from 18 to 22 June 2023. We presented 5 papers, which were published in Spinger's Lecture Notes in Mechanical Engineering, namely:

Our latest project is Xman (Erasmus+) where MaSys acquired 100 K€ to develop until 2026 an Extended Reality training prototpye system for training CNC machine tool operators.

The project aims to improve the training and assessment of professionals and life-long education students in the field of CNC machine tool operation through the use of Extended Reality (XR), by developing a training platform, an assessment system, and a comprehensive curriculum.

Then, from 2023 to 2025, in the framework of NEPTUN project (Horizon Europe) MaSys secured 180 k€ to collaborate with KTH Stockholm, TU Berlin and Gdansk Univrsity of Technology for Industry 4.0 / 5.0 technology showcasing, implementation in industry and further development.

The Neptun project at the Gdańsk University of Technology is an exciting and innovative initiative that encompasses various fields of study and research.

Since 2022 when we last posted MaSys-NTUA acquired three EU funded projects. First Manufacturing Architecture for Resilince and Sustainability MARS, with an 12 partner strong truly cross-EU Consortium. MaSys group was funded with more than 500 K€ to establish AI-based process monitoring and on-line optimization towards zero defect manufacturing.

MARS stands for Manifacturing Architecture for Resilience and Sustainability. The consortium comprises 13 project partners from 8 different European countries.

After two years of snooze our page is live again in English. We will keep pace with progress gradually. In the meantime, there is the site of Manufacturing Technology Lab NTUA, our parent organization.

MTL is the only laboratory in Greece that covers the whole spectrum of activities required to produce high added value products

MaSys group of NTUA is delighted to be part of a 12-strong Consortium of project 'Manufacturing Architecture for Resilience and Sustainability' - MARS funded by Horizon Europe for 48 months starting 1-1-2023.
MARS will develop Industry4.0 emerging technologies including digital twins of products, processes and machines, bio-intelligent production devices with local intelligence and high sensing
coverage, central intelligence with fleet learning approaches, data-driven manufacturing process models from different sources, lockchain technology for data hashing, traceability and securitization, multi-agent based manufacturing planning, multi-criteria intelligent optimization of processes and resources specially addressing environmental footprint. As a result, the impact of the project will lie into introducing radical flexibility in all different aspects of manufacturing processes, in particular by redefining the process route, raw material, resources, technology, throughput, manufacturing site, delivery date in no time, while keeping up with product’s requirements, proven product quality and sustainability of both processes and products.

Manufacturing Systems group of NTUA was awarded along with Gdansk Univ. of Technology, TU Berlin and KTH Stockholm a 3-year project funded by Horizon Europe: 'NEW APPROACH TO INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES IN MANUFACTURING' (NEPTUN). It involves training, research and technology transfer activities on additive manufacturing, AI in optimization of manufacturing processes, VR assisted manufacturing, digitally integrated production, cloud based manufacturing esp. condition monitoring.

NTUA's share of the budget is 180 K€. Project is a Coordination nd Support Action (CSA). It is starting on 1 November 2022.
