On our online closing event on June 20th, we had the opportunity to host Nelly Alfandari, who introduced us to the Common Ecologies project!

Common Ecologies is based on a process of collective conversations joined by parents, teachers, students, and anyone else who feels the urgency for schools to address the climate and ecological crisis in ways that reflect social justice; who feels like reaching out, getting organized, getting inspired by examples and materials, and formulating a critique and campaign towards eco-social learning in educational systems.

During the presentation, Nelly shared reflections on the international online Forum, Common Ecologies, which started this year with the powerful premise of “Learning, teaching and getting organized when the world is on fire." 🔥

Their insights encouraged us at Spiral Project to think beyond local contexts and seek innovative solutions grounded in social justice through worldwide networks.

Don't miss out on their inspiring work! Check out Common Ecologies website and get involved in the movement!

🌍✨ The European Wergeland Centre (EWC) has been a constant source of inspiration for us as kindergarten teachers, guiding us with innovative ideas and resources to cultivate democracy in our schools.

We are immensely proud to announce that Marta Melnykevych-Chorna, Senior Adviser at the European Wergeland Centre (Norway), will join us at our SPIRAL Closing Event | Building Inclusive Teaching Communities! ✨

Marta will share invaluable insights on the inclusion of internally displaced children and highlight EWC's work in supporting capacity building and professional learning communities for preschool teachers during wartime in Ukraine. 🇺🇦

Her presentation will be based on the experiences from the "Schools for Democracy" programme implemented by EWC in Ukraine. The EWC is adapting to wartime realities by developing crucial teaching and learning materials that help adults support children during these challenging times, while also providing preschool teachers with opportunities to continue their professional growth. 📚🌱

Join us as we learn and grow together, fostering a better future for our children even in the toughest of times. 💖👧👦

🌟 While counting down the days for our SPIRAL Closing Event | Building Inclusive Teaching Communities, today the SPIRAL kindergarten teachers from the 82nd Kindergarten of Athens hosted their final workshop on silent books!

It was a heartwarming gathering focused on kindergarten teachers from the 7th and 15th Kindergartens of Petroupolis, where we discussed the transformative power of silent books in building inclusive communities. 📚✨ Together, we explored innovative ways to use silent books to cultivate empathy and foster understanding among our young learners in urban, mainstream classrooms. 🌍💛

We enjoyed exchanging ideas, experiences, and emotions with our fellow kindergarten teachers, while also presenting the Spiral Project milestones.

Thank you all for your passion and commitment, and especially to Maria Kaiafa, headteacher of the 7th Kindergarten of Athens, for her warm invitation and gracious hospitality during our visit to the kindergarten. Let's continue to share the magic of storytelling and create inclusive spaces for every child. 🌟

We are delighted to introduce Emad Al-Rozzi, an inspiring Assistant Professor from OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University. He has been a tremendous support in bringing our project to life. 🙌

When Emad visited our kindergarten in Greece, we discovered not just a brilliant mind, but a warm-hearted individual who truly connects with the children.

When asked, he was eager to share his story as a refugee, explaining to the curious children why he now lives in Norway. His dedication and kindness make him a teacher that will be remembered.

Join us on June 20th at SPIRAL Closing Event | Building Inclusive Teaching Communities as we welcome Emad Al-Rozzi as a member of the Spiral Project. Together, we will reflect on this incredible journey. 🌟

📚✨ While in Norway, we "traveled" to the southern borders of Europe in Lampedusa, through the captivating stories of Deborah Soria. 🌍❤️

We were amazed by the power of silent books in creating communities, even in places where people do not share a common language. 🌐🤝 We encountered the incredible power of literature that inspired an inclusive project on the ground! 📖✨

Now, we are thrilled to invite Deborah to spread the word at SPIRAL Closing Event | Building Inclusive Teaching Communities on June 20th about Biblioteca IBBY Lampedusa, the Silent Book Library in Lampedusa. 📅🔔 Get insights into an international project that unites volunteers from around the world! 🌎✨ Could the next volunteer be you? 🤔✨

Join us as Deborah discusses how a community library was established in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, using silent books as tools for change. 🚢📚

📚 Four months ago, Anita Berge - Multilingual Advisor at Oslo kommune - brought a touch of Norway to our kindergarten in Greece, introducing us to the world of silent books. "I'm certain these books will inspire you," she said with a huge smile.

Since then, we've journeyed to Norway, visited FABEL kreativt språksenter, and immersed ourselves in the magic of silent books. Now, we're excited to bring this knowledge back to Greece, where we've hosted workshops for 70 teachers, librarians, NGO workers, and local activists from our multicultural neighborhoods in Athens. Together, we're discovering how silent books can pave the way for inclusive education.

Join us on July 20th for the SPIRAL Closing Event | Building Inclusive Teaching Communities, where Anita Berge will share the journey of silent books from Lampedusa to Holmlia, inspiring the creation of FABEL Creative Centre for Multilingualism in Oslo, Norway. Situated in a diverse and socioeconomically challenged district, FABEL uses silent books to create safe, inclusive, and joyful spaces for children and families.

Don't miss out on this enlightening initiative. Registration link here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEqceCspzgvGtSaYGO8ybM9cBdM7A0L3fRm #/registration
