Κάθε καλοκαίρι☀️, οι ακτές της Κρήτης φιλοξενούν έναν από τους πιο εμβληματικούς επισκέπτες της Μεσογείου: τη θαλάσσια χελώνα Καρέττα ❤🐢❤, η οποία επιστρέφει για να φωλιάσει και να συνεχίσει τον κύκλο ζωής της.
Η περιβαλλοντική οργάνωση ΑΡΧΕΛΩΝ-Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, με πολυετή δράση στην προστασία της θαλάσσιας χελώνας στην Ελλάδα από το 1983, συνεχίζει και φέτος το έργο της στις παραλίες ωοτοκίας των Χανίων, του Ρεθύμνου και του Κόλπου Μεσσαράς, προσκαλώντας κατοίκους και επισκέπτες να συμμετάσχουν στο Sea Turtle Beach Walk, μια βιωματική περιβαλλοντική εμπειρία για μικρούς και μεγάλους.

Every summer☀️, the coasts of Crete host one of the most iconic visitors of the Mediterranean: the loggerhead sea turtle ❤🐢❤, which returns to nest and continue its life cycle. ΑΡΧΕΛΩΝ-Archelon, the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece, with experience in sea turtle conservation in Greece since 1983, continues its work on the nesting beaches of Chania, Rethymno and the Messara Bay. This year, ARCHELON is inviting residents and visitors to participate in the Sea Turtle Beach Walk, a turtle-friendly environmental experience for young and old.

"Viaggi Diversi" - which means "Different Travels" - is a project from Vanoni Institute in Vimercate, a tourism school. This year the destination is Crete, Greece.

Day 3
started with the Archaeological Site of Phaistos - another piece of Minoan history. Hard to believe how much these people built thousands of years ago. Then we moved to Matala, one of the Mediterranean's old trading stops that became legendary in the 60s and 70s when hippies took over the famous seaside caves and basically turned it into a free-living community. After the presentations we got the afternoon free - sea, sun, no schedule. Exactly what we needed. Then back on the coach towards Rethymno, our base for the next few days.

Day 4
Rethymno. The whole place is dominated by the huge Venetian Fortress built in the 1500s, later taken by the Ottomans at the end of the 1600s. You can see exactly where one civilisation left off and another began - the Church of Saint Nicholas is a perfect example, originally Christian, then converted into a mosque. At 14:30 the coach took us to the Monastery of Arkadi, and this one hit differently. Founded in the Byzantine era and developed under Venetian rule in the 16th century, it became the symbol of something much heavier in 1867. Rather than surrender to the Ottoman army, hundreds of Cretan fighters and civilians chose to blow up the powder magazine, killing themselves and their enemies together. At 16:30 we headed to the Mili Gorge for a two-hour trek. The path is about 4 or 5 kilometres, all downhill, and honestly not that hard. What a nice way to end a pretty intense day.

Day 5 - Last day.
Bags packed, Rethymno behind us, Chania ahead.
Chania might be the most beautiful place we've seen on this whole trip. The old town is a maze of narrow streets that just pull you in, and the Venetian port is stunning at every hour of the day.
In the morning we visited the Folklore Museum, which gave us a real sense of everyday life in Crete through the centuries - tools, textiles, traditions. Then we wandered through the old market, full of local products and that kind of chaotic, lived-in atmosphere that you don't really find at home. We also stopped at several churches, including the Cathedral of the Three Martyrs and the Church of Agios Nikolaos - this last one has quite a story, having been a mosque under Ottoman rule and a church before and after. Starting to feel like a pattern here in Crete.
Lunch was free time around the port area - different restaurants, different cafes, everyone finding their own corner of the city for a bit. Good call.
In the afternoon we covered a lot of ground: the Tampakaria area with its old tanneries, the Archaeological Museum - closed to the public that day, which was a shame - and then the Mosque of the Janissaries right on the waterfront, the Firkas Fortress, the Sabionara Bastion and finally the Venetian Lighthouse, standing at the edge of the harbour like it has for centuries.
Five days, one island, a lot of history and a lot of kilometres on our legs. We came as students and leave feeling a little bit like we know what it means to be guides, travellers and maybe even storytellers.

"Viaggi Diversi" - which means "Different Travels" - is a project from Vanoni Institute in Vimercate, a tourism school. This year the destination is Crete, Greece.

Days 1&2

Day1
We landed in Chania in the morning and got on the coach to Heraklion. We arrived in Heraklion late in the afternoon. First order of business: pita gyros. Huge. Generous. Life-saving. We visited the Venetian harbour, the Koules Fortress and the Venetian Shipyards. Next stop at the Church of Saint Titus: a Catholic church under the Venetians, a mosque under the Ottomans, then back to an Orthodox church. Alessandro walked us along the Venetian Walls, built between the 1400s and 1600s.
The Venetian Loggia is beautiful, Renaissance style - it serves as Heraklion's Town Hall today. And then the Morosini Fountain, built in 1628. People call it the Fountain of the Lions.
We wrapped up at the Cathedral of Saint Menas, a huge neo-Byzantine church dedicated to the city's patron saint.

Day 2
Alarm at 7:00 and first stop: the Palace of Knossos, the largest Bronze Age site on Crete, the centre of the Minoan civilization. Rebecca, Michela and Arianna - explained everything in a way that actually made sense. Then we headed to Zaros, a small village in the hills of central Crete, for lunch and then the best part of the day - maybe of the whole trip so far: the Kamihis Farm! Velina and her husband came out to meet us. Velina took us through two activities: making bread and cheese. It made us think that working with your hands can actually be a good thing. And in that moment we were genuinely one team, all in it together. Then they sat us all down and fed us properly: eggs, greek salad, beans, pasta with tomato sauce, feta, fruit juice, water. Everything tasted homemade because it actually was. One of those meals you don't forget. Genuinely one of the best days.

Ο Δήμος Χανίων διοργανώνει για 4η συνεχόμενη χρονιά το 260KMemories Festival, το Φεστιβάλ Εναλλακτικού Τουρισμού & Εμπειριών, στις 8–10 Μαΐου, στην Πλατεία Κατεχάκη, στο Ενετικό Λιμάνι Χανίων.

Ένα τριήμερο γεμάτο εμπειρίες, που αναδεικνύει τον εναλλακτικό τουρισμό της Κρήτης μέσα από δραστηριότητες, εκθέτες και ανθρώπους που προσφέρουν αυθεντικές εμπειρίες όλο τον χρόνο.

Φέτος, στο επίκεντρο βρίσκεται η Κρητική Γαστρονομία,
με μια ξεχωριστή “Taste Zone”, όπου οι επισκέπτες θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να δοκιμάσουν δωρεάν παραδοσιακές και σύγχρονες γεύσεις της Κρήτης.

👉Μετά την επιτυχημένη διοργάνωση του 2025, ο Δήμος Χανίων - Municipality of Chania διοργανώνει φέτος τον 2ο Διαγωνισμό Σπιτικού Οίνου και σε καλεί να συμμετέχεις, παρουσιάζοντας και αναδεικνύοντας το σπιτικό κρασί που παράγεις.

👉Έχεις μεράκι για το κρασί;
Έλα να παρουσιάσεις το δικό σου σπιτικό κρασί στον 2ο Διαγωνισμό Σπιτικού Οίνου που διοργανώνει ο Δήμος Χανίων την Κυριακή 10 Μαΐου 2026 στις 18:30, στην πλατεία Κατεχάκη, στο πλαίσιο του 260Kmemories Festival 2026.
Αν φτιάχνεις ξηρό λευκό, κόκκινο ή ροζέ κρασί από το 2022 και μετά, χωρίς τυποποίηση/εμπορική διάθεση, έχεις την ευκαιρία να το αναδείξεις μπροστά σε κοινό και ειδικούς.

👉Προϋποθέσεις Συμμετοχής & Διαδικασία Διαγωνισμού:

- Ο διαγωνισμός απευθύνεται αποκλειστικά σε οινοπαραγωγούς που δεν διαθέτουν τυποποιημένο/εμπορικό προϊόν και παράγουν κρασί για προσωπική ή οικογενειακή χρήση.
- Σπιτικό, μη τυποποιημένο κρασί (λευκό, κόκκινο ή ροζέ)
- Χρονιά παραγωγής: 2022 ή μεταγενέστερη
- Οι συμμετέχοντες θα παραδίδουν δείγματα προς αξιολόγηση σε μπουκάλια ενός λίτρου (1lt) από 29/4/2026 έως και 6/5/2026 αναγράφοντας όνομα παραγωγού, περιοχή, ποικιλία και έτος παραγωγής. Η παράδοση θα γίνεται στο Γραφείο Τουρισμού του Δήμου Χανίων (Δημαρχείο Χανίων, 1ος όροφος)
- Η αξιολόγηση θα γίνει από ειδική επιτροπή Sommelier και Οινολόγων και το κοινό θα μπορεί να δοκιμάσει τα διαγωνιζόμενα κρασιά.
- Θα δοθούν βραβεία ανά κατηγορία και τιμητικές διακρίσεις.

Οι παραλίες των Χανίων φιλοξενούν σημαντικούς πληθυσμούς ωοτοκίας της Caretta caretta 🐢και αποτελούν ταυτόχρονα δημοφιλείς τουριστικούς προορισμούς.
Η εκδήλωση έχει στόχο να αναδείξει τη σημασία της προστασίας της θαλάσσιας χελώνας για το μέλλον του τουρισμού στην περιοχή. Απευθύνεται κυρίως σε επαγγελματίες του τουρισμού, εκπροσώπους φορέων και σε κάθε ενδιαφερόμενο για την ανάπτυξη ενός βιώσιμου και υπεύθυνου τουριστικού μοντέλου στην περιοχή.

Στην εκδήλωση που πραγματοποιείται με την υποστήριξη της TUI Care Foundation στο πλαίσιο του έργου TUI Turtle Aid Greece, θα παρουσιαστούν:

👉 τα αποτελέσματα των δράσεων του ΑΡΧΕΛΩΝ στα Χανιά για το 2025
👉 καλές πρακτικές από τουριστικές επιχειρήσεις που
συμβάλλουν ενεργά στην προστασία των παραλιών ωοτοκίας
👉 οι διεθνείς εξελίξεις στον βιώσιμο τουρισμό.
