🚀 The 2nd day of the Digi Content Interreg Europe 3rd Interregional Meetings (IRMs), brought valuable insights!
⚒️ After the intensive sightseeing of undergrounds in the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze, we transferred to the City of Katowice.
We started the day with the guided tour at its Katowice Nikiszowiec district, which is a unique mining housing estate, designed by Georg and Emil Zillmann, built in between 1908-24. Our guest seen there the “Katowice Gaming and Technology Hub” (under construction), located at the post-industrial site of the former KWK Wieczorek mine. All had afterwards the traditional Silesian dishes for lunch, at the Śląska Prohibicja restaurant.
Second half of the day we organized at the Katowice Miasto Ogrodów – Instytucja Kultury im. Krystyny Bochenek. Our speakers detailed on the intersection between heritage, data & digital transformation, within the themes:
➡️ “Forget the spreadsheet: AI in conversation with cultural data” - Karol Piekarski, Founder of the Medialab Katowice
The Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolis, back in 2023, surveyed 6,000 residents about their cultural lives: concerts, libraries, theatre, and everything in between. The result was a rich database that… most people would never know how to query. The Medialab Katowice built an AI agent allowing the one to skip the complexity and just ask questions in plain language. It is useful for researchers, organisers, and anyone who supports local cultural life.
➡️ “Decaying world preserved forever. Photogrammetry & Games” - Wojciech Pazdur, CEO & Director of Development at The Farm 51 Group SA
Post-industrial heritage is an area of intervention, since it is fragile, there is a limited physical accessibility of sites, a natural degradation is a threat, and there are accessibility issues. Advanced digitalization and gaming are enablers to capture the heritage and provide it with a “second life.”
Moreover, the project's Coordinator presented a summary of the so far completed milestones and indicators at the for the end of second semester, with a plan for the third semester, and expenditure summary for each partner. A report on communication activities was also presented, demonstrating the project's increasing visibility.
The event was hosted by the Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze and RIS WSL - Regionalna Strategia Innowacji Województwa Śląskiego (Urząd Marszałkowski Województwa Śląskiego).
