Deep in the heart of the Peten Jungle of Guatemala, the Classic Maya site of Tikal developed a spectacular civilizations between 800 BC and 900 AD.

This is not the official site of the Tikal Parque Nacional but an archaeological educational site. You can watch the sunrise by special arrangement earlier than 6 AM but the sunset is more spectacular. Be on Temple IV at 5:15 to 5:45 for the best light. In March the sun passes north of Temple II around 5 PM and lights up Temple I so it glows orange. Rainy days are also spectacular for photography when the purple clouds set of the white, grey and green of the intricate architecture.

Con profunda tristeza informamos del fallecimiento del distinguido arqueólogo Don Miguel Orrego Corzo, el 9 de abril de 2025. Durante varios años realizó investigaciones en Tikal, especialmente en el santuario del Templo V, y junto con Don Rudy Larios excavó y estudió el magnífico palacio del gran gobernante Yikin Chan Kawil en la Calzada de Méndez en Tikal. Posteriormente, dedicó muchos años a la reconstrucción e investigación del sitio que perteneciente al desarrollo temprano de la civilizaciónque Maya, de Takalik Abaj, en el municipio de El Asintal.

Un gran amigo durante más que un medio siglo, un arqueólogo inteligente y talentoso, y un hombre que dedicó toda su vida a preservar el maravilloso patrimonio de Guatemala, el país que amó y cuya historia protegió apasionadamente para las generaciones futuras.

Paracas, Peru. Shaped skull in the local museum. Shaping of skulls was done all over the world at various times including Europe, Asia and the Americas. This skull had a volume of 2500 cc whereas normally a skull is about 1500 cc but apparently it does not affect thinking ability.
