As we continue to reflect on last week's Caught Between Empires conversation with the Pacific Center for Island Security, let's think about Guam and what the future of would look like under the three status options.

The defense of Guam with a change in political status is often marked by confusion and uncertainty. However, any of the three status options provide Guam with opportunities to protect and defend its people, while also having more say in/more control over how the island’s land and sea resources are used for military purposes. 🇬🇺

Last week, the Commission on Decolonization participated in Caught Between Empires, a conversation with the Pacific Center for Island Security (PCIS) hosted by and sponsored by .

Their conversation with the community highlighted Guam's historic and continuing geopolitical importance and the need for island-centric perspectives of security. As we look toward the future, we must think critically about our island's genuine security & the role we want Guam to play in international and regional affairs, and remember that our continued status as an unincorporated Territory creates obstacles to shaping our island's future. and will empower Guam with a degree of sovereignty necessary to make decisions about its future.

Congratulations to Ha'ani and Lia, the winners of the University of Guam's 8th Annual Film Festival: 96-hour High School Film Competition!

In collaboration with the University of Guam and the Department of CHamoru Affairs, the Commission on Decolonization hosted a 96-Hour High School Film Competition focused on in . We are so grateful to all the students who participated and hope to continue conversations around and .
