GEPA has launched an investigation into any potential ramifications that may have been caused by the landslide that occurred on East Agana on October 15, 2025.

* Investigation efforts include, but are not limited to:

* Determining the possible cause of the landslide

* Evaluating whether construction developments in the affected area complied with GEPA standards

* Developing strategies for preventing further cliffside erosion and future landslides

* Assessing the environmental and marine impacts, and outlining mitigation, cleanup, and restoration plans for the near future

Hafa Adai! The Guam Environmental Protection Agency (Guam EPA) would like to remind owners and operators of Underground Storage Tanks (UST) containing regulated substances that they are required by the Underground Storage of Regulated Substances Act, as amended, Chapter 76 of Title 10 Guam Code Annotated, and Title 22 Guam Administrative Rules and Regulations Chapter 50 Underground Storage Tank Regulations, to apply for a UST operating permit with the Agency.

The annual permit fee of two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) per tank shall be remitted to this Agency no later than December 31, 2024. In addition, the following shall be submitted with the permit fee:

1. Guam EPA Appendix III – Application for Underground Storage Tank Renewal Permit for each UST location;
2. A copy of the financial assurance for the UST at each location; and
3. A check payable to Treasurer of Guam c/o Guam EPA UST-LUST Fund for each UST containing a regulated substance at each location.

Failure to obtain a permit for your facility by January 31, 2025, may result in fines for each day of non-compliance after January 31, 2024. The renewal application can be also be downloaded from Guam EPA’s webpage at:http://epa.guam.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/APPENDIX-III_Form-03_REVISED-Nov-2017_PDF.pdf

It may also result in more serious illnesses such as meningitis, encephalitis, or severe gastroenteritis. Children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems have a greater chance of getting sick when they come in contact with contaminated water.
