🎣🌊 We had a "reel" good time at the Piti Sea Festival 2026 🌊🎣

DAWR was proud to be part of this year's Piti Sea Festival, bringing hands-on fishing fun and ocean heritage to the community!

Festival-goers of all ages stopped by our Mini Fishing Clinic Station to learn essential fishing skills, including knot tying, casting techniques, and our crowd-favorite reeling competition, where participants raced head-to-head to reel in their catch and get it into the cooler first. The challenge was a hit with kids and adults alike!

We also shared the traditional CHamoru practice of talåya fishing, providing demonstrations and giving participants the opportunity to try casting for themselves. By sharing these skills, we hope to help perpetuate the knowledge and cultural significance of this important fishing tradition for future generations.

The festival also marked the public debut of DAWR's new Aquatic Education and Outreach Van, wrapped with the message “Gineftaoi: Understanding Our Ocean, Honoring Our Home.” The van will serve as a mobile platform for bringing ocean literacy, fishing education, conservation awareness, and cultural outreach directly to communities across Guam.

Si Yu'os Ma'åse' to everyone who stopped by, learned a new skill, and joined the fun! 🎣🤙
