🐾 More than 11,153 sterilizations. Ten community outreaches. One shared commitment to Guam's animals.

We are proud to partner with GAIN's Spay & Neuter Island Pets (SNIP) program to bring our 10th community spay and neuter clinic to the Sinajana from August 11-20, 2026. 🎉

While Sinajana and Agana Heights are the focus communities for this outreach, the clinic is open to all residents island-wide. Sinajana's central location makes it easy for families from across Guam to participate.

This clinic is part of a strategic, community-by-community effort to reduce Guam's free-roaming dog and cat population. By concentrating services in one area before moving to the next, the program creates lasting results and helps prevent populations from quickly rebounding and having a 'vacuum effect'.

Surgeries are $50 and by appointment only. Book now as appointment slots are limited! Pet owners should bring their own carriers. Residents receiving SNAP benefits qualify for the SNIP-SNAP sponsorship which covers the full cost of surgery. Community animals (dogs/cats looked after collectively) are especially encouraged to be brought in and are eligible for the SNIP-n-Tip program, which provides sterilization surgery, microchipping, rabies and cores vaccinations, and ear-tip identification on a by-donation basis.

🐾 Every boonie has a story.

Long before they became the beloved companions we know today, their story began during World War II.

When the war ended, many dogs were left behind on Guam. Over generations, they adapted to island life, and their descendants became what we lovingly know today as boonies. Their mixed heritage helped shape dogs known for their resilience, loyalty, adaptability, and unwavering companionship.

Today, boonies are part of Guam’s identity. You’ll find them in homes across the island, protecting families, bringing joy to children, and proving every day that love isn’t defined by pedigree.

As we celebrate National Mutt Day (July 31, 2026), let’s also remember that many boonies are still waiting for a loving home. Each of us can help create a brighter future by:
🐾 Spaying and neutering our pets
🐾 Keeping pets safely contained
🐾 Never abandoning an animal
🐾 Vaccinating your pets

Every boonie’s story deserves a happy ending. 🧡

What an incredible day! 🐾💚

Today, the Department of Agriculture – Division of Animal Health had the opportunity to visit the Agana Heights Summer Literacy Program to teach students about the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare. The students were incredibly engaged, thoughtful, and enthusiastic throughout the presentation, making it a fun and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

A special thank you to the Agana Heights Summer Literacy Program & Agana Heights Mayor’s Office for welcoming our team, and to student-doctor Christian for helping inspire the next generation of animal advocates.

The Division of Animal Health is available to provide educational presentations for schools, youth groups, businesses, organizations, and community events. Those interested in hosting a presentation are encouraged to contact the office to learn more.

Together, education helps build a more compassionate community for both people and animals. 🐾

Lost or found a pet after Bavi? 🐾

Storms can frighten animals and cause them to slip through damaged fences, doors, or gates. Please keep an eye out in your village and help share lost/found pet posts when you can.

Super Typhoon Bavi may have passed, but post-storm health risks for pets can continue for days or even weeks after.

As our island recovers, keep a close eye on your pets for any signs of illness, injury, or stress. Vomiting, diarrhea, refusing food or water, limping, skin irritation, lethargy, or muscle pain can all be signs that your pet needs veterinary attention. Flood water and storm debris can expose pets to bacteria, infection, and other hazards.

Storm stress can affect pets too. Hiding, shaking, clinginess, or accidents in the house may be normal for a few days, but if anxiety continues beyond 1–2 weeks, check in with your veterinarian.

Now is also a good time to make sure your pet is up to date on leptospirosis and other vaccines, especially after storm and flood conditions.

A little extra attention now can make a big difference in your pet’s recovery. 💛

As our island continues cleaning up after Super Typhoon Bavi, please continue to keep an eye out for hidden hazards that may still be in your yard or around your home.

Pets may be eager to get back outside, but broken glass, sharp tin or metal debris, exposed nails, downed branches, standing water, displaced wildlife, and damaged fence lines can still pose serious risks.

Before letting pets roam freely, take a few minutes to check the area and make sure it is safe. A quick look around today can help prevent an emergency vet visit tomorrow. 💛

We are grateful for the overwhelming interest in the free pet crates being provided ahead of Super Typhoon Bavi.

Because supplies are limited, we kindly ask the community to please help us prioritize families who are unable to purchase a crate at this time and have outdoor dogs or cats who need a safe way to come indoors before the storm.

These crates are intended to help protect pets whose families may not otherwise have access to proper sheltering supplies. By allowing those most in need to receive assistance first, we can work together to help save more lives.

If you are able to purchase or borrow a crate, carrier, or secure indoor containment option, we encourage you to do so and help leave the limited emergency supply for families who need it most.

Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and support as we prepare our island and our pets for the storm.

Please bring pets indoors. Their lives depend on us. 🐾
