Every classroom holds the possibility of changing a life, and every life changed through education adds to the strength and progress of our country.

This is the spirit in which we observe Education Month 2026 under the theme, โ€œFrom Classrooms to Communities, Education Transforms Lives.โ€ Across Guyana, we have seen what sustained investment in education can make possible. More Guyanese are accessing education at every level; more teachers are being trained; schools and learning environments are being transformed; technology is taking learning beyond the traditional classroom; and opportunities that once seemed unattainable to many families are now becoming possible for their children. This progress reflects the Government of Guyanaโ€™s unwavering commitment to creating a national reality in which quality education and opportunity are within the reach of every Guyanese.

As Guyana moves forward, our education system must also keep pace with a changing world. The children in our classrooms today are preparing for a future being reshaped by technology, artificial intelligence, and new opportunities. Our responsibility is to ensure that they are not simply educated for today but equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed in the Guyana of tomorrow and compete wherever their ambitions may take them.

Preparing our children for that future also means continuing to strengthen the foundations of education today. We must keep improving learning outcomes, deepening our focus on literacy and numeracy, supporting our educators, closing gaps wherever they exist, and finding better ways to reach every learner. Indeed, the progress we have made gives us a strong foundation on which to build, and as Guyana develops, the standard we set for education must continue to rise with it.

This Education Month, I wish to sincerely thank our educators, parents, guardians, students, education officers, support staff, communities, and every partner who shares in this work. The real success of an education system is seen in what its people are able to become because of it. Our collective task is to ensure that every classroom in Guyana is a place where possibility begins and that what our children gain through education strengthens their lives, their families, their communities, and ultimately, our nation.

The Ministry of Education through NCERD continues to support the implementation of the Grade 5 Renewed Curriculum through a capacity-building workshop for teachers in Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni). The workshop focuses on strengthening teachersโ€™ understanding of the curriculum, including the Essential Learning Outcomes (ELOs), National Learning Outcomes (NLOs), assessment approaches, and learner-centred instructional strategies across the core subject areas. Through practical and collaborative activities, teachers are being equipped to translate the curriculum into meaningful classroom experiences that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and active learning, while strengthening their preparedness for effective curriculum delivery.
