Grade 5 pupils of Soesdyke Primary School on the East Bank of Demerara recently benefited from the Bureau of Statisticsโ Stats Smart School Education Programme, as the agency continued its efforts to introduce young learners to the value of data and statistics.
During the one-hour interactive session, students were taught about the work of the Bureau of Statistics, the differences between data, information and statistics, the types of data as well as and the important role statistics play in making informed decisions.
The students were eager to participate, sharing examples from their own environment and asking questions as they explored how data is collected, organised, analysed and presented on datasets. They also had the opportunity to interact with paper-based datasets, charts and graphs.
At the end of the programme, the students were quizzed on the content delivered to assess their understanding and the overall effectiveness of the programme.
The Stats Smart School Education Programme forms part of the Bureau of Statisticsโ efforts to ensure school-aged children across Guyana understand and value data and statistics.
