----Commissioner of Police extends best wishes during courtesy call
There was a time when Keri Shilika Duncan was told that pursuing a career in dance and modelling in Guyana would lead nowhere. Rather than allowing those words to define her future, she chose to believe in herself, remain steadfast in her faith, and pursue her dreams amidst all odds.
Today, the 26-year-old final-year University of Guyana student, dancer, model, and employee of the Guyana Police Force is preparing to represent Guyana at the Miss Global International Pageant 2026 in
Jamaica.
Earlier this week, Commissioner of Police Dr Clifton Hicken met with Duncan at his Eve Leary office, where he congratulated her on her achievement and extended his best wishes as she prepares to represent Guyana on the international stage.
Dr Hicken also used the opportunity to encourage her to remain confident and focused as she embarks on this exciting journey, noting that her story will inspire other young people who aspire to achieve their goals despite challenges.
Duncan is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Rehabilitation (Physiotherapy). Before graduating next year, she will complete her remaining courses and internships as part of the four-year programme, which focuses on the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients and athletes.
Her long-term goal is to specialise in sports medicine, particularly in the area of dance rehabilitation and performance enhancement.
As a professional ballet and contemporary dancer, Duncan understands firsthand the physical demands placed on performers. She hopes to combine her knowledge of physiotherapy with her passion for dance to help young people, including those with disabilities, safely develop their talents through proper training, conditioning, and rehabilitation practices.
โI want to be a dance instructor with a difference,โ Duncan explained. โI want to create a safe environment where boys and girls, including those who are differently abled, can explore their talents with someone who is trained to work with them and support their development.โ
Beyond academics and dance, Duncan is an active member of the Nulli Secundus Youth Group at her church and describes her Christian faith as the foundation of her life. She is also a passionate advocate for animal welfare and believes that true beauty is rooted in service to others.
Duncan explains that her pageantry journey has involved perseverance and growth, where she previously competed in the Miss Guyana Culture Queen 2023 competition and the Miss Global International Guyana 2024 Pageant, where she earned the titles of Third Runner-Up and First Runner-Up, respectively.
When asked what inspired her to participate in Miss Global International Guyana 2026, Duncan said she has always viewed herself as an ambassador for her country.
โI have always used my platforms through dance and modelling to represent Guyana. When I was given the opportunity to become Miss Global International Guyana 2026, I considered it a tremendous honour. It provides me with a platform to bring greater awareness to physiotherapy and the creative performing arts, while educating, motivating, and encouraging young people to pursue their dreams,โ she said.
Duncan will represent Guyana at the Miss Global International Pageant in Jamaica from September 14โ20, 2026, where she plans to showcase Guyanaโs culture while advocating for youth empowerment, health, and the performing arts industry.
Reflecting on her journey, she shared a message she hopes will inspire others.
โI want the world to know that I am a firm believer in God and that He gives us the strength to pursue our dreams. I was told that I could not be a professional dancer in Guyana and that modelling would not take me anywhere, but I never accepted that as the end of the road. I continued to believe that I could make a difference in my country and be a light for others who have similar dreams. With this title, I intend to shine even brighter and show others that they too can achieve their goals.โ
The Guyana Police Force extends its heartfelt congratulations to Duncan and wishes her every success as she proudly represents Guyana at the Miss Global International Pageant 2026.
