𝘾𝘼𝙍𝙀𝙀𝙍 𝘿𝘼𝙔 𝙃𝙀𝙇𝘿 𝘼𝙏 𝙋𝙊𝙍𝙏 𝙆𝘼𝙄𝙏𝙐𝙈𝘼 𝙉𝙐𝙍𝙎𝙀𝙍𝙔 𝙎𝘾𝙃𝙊𝙊𝙇

The Guyana Police Force, through the Traffic Enforcement Department and Sub-Division #2, Regional Police Division #1, on Monday, September 28, 2026, participated in a Career Day programme held at the Port Kaituma Nursery School, Region #01.

The programme, which commenced at 09:00hrs and concluded at approximately 10:50hrs, was aimed at exposing the pupils to various professions while encouraging them to develop positive aspirations and become responsible citizens.

The activity was attended by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) P. Narine, Officer-in-Charge of Sub-Division #2, Regional Police Division #1, and Inspector A. Schultz, along with members of the Traffic Enforcement Department and other professionals, including a Nurse, Teacher, Doctor and Soldier.

During the programme, information the officer, Inspector and ranks, shared about their respective careers and explained the important roles they play in society. The pupils were encouraged to work hard, remain disciplined, respect others and pursue their educational goals.

Inspector Schultz also sensitised the pupils on road safety, reminding them not to play on the roadway, not to run across the road without first looking, and to always hold an adult's hand when crossing.

The children were further encouraged to practise good behaviour by respecting their parents, teachers and others, avoiding fights, sharing with their peers and siblings, and refraining from taking things that do not belong to them.

The importance of personal hygiene and cleanliness was also emphasised. The pupils were reminded to assist in keeping their classrooms and surroundings clean. The Career Day concluded on a positive.

The Guyana Police Force continues to foster meaningful relationships with young people through community engagement, education and crime-prevention initiatives, while promoting discipline, respect and responsible citizenship.

𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐂𝐔𝐒𝐇 𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐒 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐈𝐍 𝐋𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐋 𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Travis Cush, made his formal entry into the legal profession before Chief Justice Navindra Singh, adding another qualification to his career profile earlier today (Tuesday, September 29, 2026), by joining The Bar Association of Guyana. His admission into this esteemed legal fraternity comes after many years in law enforcement and continuous legal education and practical experience in the judicial system.

Travis Cush was enlisted into the Guyana Police Force (GPF) as a Constable on May 17, 2010. Having served for 16 years, he was promoted through the ranks to Assistant Superintendent and currently serves as Administrative Officer of the Tactical Services Unit.

For Cush, the experience he gained as a policeman had already put him on the intersection of law and justice, and his legal education added yet another dimension to his career. His educational history is characterized by his dedication to professional growth. He was awarded the Certificate in Industrial Relations and Management from the University of Guyana in 2014; he obtained a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Public Management in 2018 and a Bachelor of Laws in 2024. Cush also received the Certificate in Advocacy and Evidence for Summary Court Prosecutors in 2024.

His legal training continued at the Eugene Dupuch Law School in The Bahamas, where he was granted the Legal Education Certificate on September 4, 2026. While studying at the law school, he participated in the Margaret Forte Inter-Law Schools Mock Trial Competition in Trinidad and Tobago, representing the law school and earning praise for his advocacy skills.

Moreover, Cush distinguished himself through his work in legal clinics. At the 2026 ceremony of graduates’ presentation, he was awarded the Council of Legal Education Prize for Most Outstanding Student in the Legal Aid Clinic, and the Callenders & Co. Save the Bays Environmental Law Clinic Prize for the most active and contributing student of the Environmental Law Clinic.

His connection to law enforcement is longstanding. Cush is a third-generation member of police officers. His grandfather served as a Quartermaster Superintendent, his late father, Selwyn Cush, was a police officer and also served as a peacekeeper in Namibia.

Cush’s admission to the Bar means more than a career choice; it carries significance beyond an individual professional achievement. His journey of becoming an attorney was supported by his mother, along with his wife, and their five children, who shared sacrifices associated with his academic and professional pursuits.

As he assumes the responsibilities of an attorney-at-Law, Cush enters the law profession with experience in the enforcement aspect of the justice system, along with having received training in advocacy and law. The next phase in Cush’s career will involve the use of this combination of experience together with the obligations of a legal professional, including candor towards the court, confidentiality, diligence, and fidelity to the law.
The admission to the Bar Association of Guyana for Assistant Superintendent Travis Cush is thus both a success and a transition.

Also in attendance were Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravindradat Budhram and several other senior and junior officers of the Guyana Police Force. This auspicious occasion was witnessed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), members of the legal fraternity; Mr. Selwyn Pieters, B.A., LL.B., L.E.C., who presented the petition on behalf of Mr. Cush, was assisted by Attorneys-at-Law Geeta Chandra Edmond and Superintendent Delon Fraser; family members and friends all gathered to lend their support as he marked this significant professional milestone.

The Guyana Police Force congratulates Attorney-at-Law Assistant Superintendent Travis Cush on his admission to the Bar Association of Guyana. The Force recognized this significant achievement and wishes him continued distinction as he takes on this new professional responsibility.

Members of the Regional Police Division #2, Police Youth Groups participated in a Fun Day and Outing at Tapakuma Mission, Essequibo Coast, on Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Police Youth Group members from Charity, Dartmouth, and Anna Regina participated in a variety of sporting and recreational activities, including cricket, five-a-side football, crab catching, lime and spoon, bag race.

The youths performed commendably, securing first place in cricket, five-a-side football, crab catching, and lime and spoon. Medals and trophies were awarded for their achievements.

The outing promoted teamwork, sportsmanship, camaraderie, and positive relationships between the youths, police, and the wider community.

A total of 32 Police Youth Group members and three leaders participated in the activity.

𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗗-𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗟𝗬 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧𝗘𝗗

Ranks of Regional Police Division #2 participated in a three-day Child-Friendly Procedures Training from September 23–25, 2026, at the Regional Divisional Conference Room.

The training was facilitated by representatives of the Juvenile Justice Department, Ministry of Home Affairs, and focused on strengthening police officers’ knowledge and skills in dealing with children who come into contact with, or conflict with, the law.

Key areas covered included:

- Juvenile Justice System and procedures
- Child-sensitive interviewing and communication
- Recognising trauma, abuse, and vulnerability
- Handling juveniles in police custody
- Gender, disability, and vulnerability
- Juvenile diversion and referral pathway - Restorative Justice
- Proper record-keeping and documentation

Participants also engaged in case studies, group discussions, practical exercises, pre- and post-tests, and an evaluation of the programme.

The training reinforced the importance of treating children with dignity, respect, fairness, and sensitivity, while ensuring that police ranks understand and follow the legal and ethical requirements governing juvenile matters.

Guyana Police Force is working to strengthen child-friendly policing and protect the rights and welfare of children.

𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒓 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑷𝒐𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝑵𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒖𝒓𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒇𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈; 𝑮𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅 $75,000 𝑩𝒂𝒊𝒍

Cosmos Benjamin, a 53-year-old miner of Pomeroon River, was charged with Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.

Benjamin was arrested on Friday September 25, 2026, in relation to the discovery of suspected narcotics and was subsequently charged on Monday September 28, 2026.

He appeared on Monday September 28, 2026, before Her Worship Magistrate Caressa Henry at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.

Benjamin pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of GY$75,000.

The matter was adjourned to November 26, 2026, for continuation.

𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝗥𝘂𝗯𝘆 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗲

The Guyana Police Force's Lady Falcon Ruby Team successfully hosted its first fundraiser barbecue on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Guyana Police Force Credit Union, UniCoop Cafeteria, Camp Road.

The initiative was organised to raise funds to support the team’s continued development and participation in upcoming rugby activities. Proceeds from the fundraiser will assist with the acquisition of training gear and help offset travel expenses for the team.

The fundraiser also provided an opportunity for members of the Force, supporters, friends and members of the public to come together in support of the Lady Falcon Ruby Team.

The Guyana Police Force extends appreciation to everyone who supported the initiative and contributed to the team’s efforts.

Minister of Home Affairs, the Honourable Oneidge Walrond, today, Monday September 28, 2026, conducted a series of impromptu visits to key units within the Guyana Police Force (GPF), where she received a first-hand look at daily operations, workflow and service delivery.

The Minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’ Errol Watts; Director of the Guyana Police Force’s Academy, Senior Superintendent Sonia Herbert; Commandant of the GPF Academy, Georgetown, Superintendent Halley Smith; and other officials.

During the exercise, Minister Walrond visited the Guyana Police Force Academy, the Criminal Record Office and the Police Credit Union, where she toured the respective facilities and interacted with officers and administrative staff.

The visits allowed the Minister to observe personnel carrying out their duties, examine existing administrative processes and gain insight into the working environment and day-to-day functioning of the respective units.

Minister Walrond also engaged personnel on matters relating to their duties, operational challenges and areas where improvements could further enhance efficiency and service delivery.

The impromptu visits form part of efforts to maintain direct engagement with ranks and assess the operations of key departments within the Guyana Police Force, with continued emphasis on efficiency, accountability and improved service delivery.
