Established in March 1985 under Act No. 11 of 1984, GNBS is a semi-autonomous governmental organization dedicated to upholding standards and quality across Guyana. As the sole National Standards Body in the country, GNBS plays a pivotal role in ens

uring the quality of products and services. Governed by a National Standards Council appointed by the Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce, GNBS holds the legal status of a statutory corporation. Our operations are guided by internationally recognized standards, as evidenced by our ISO 9001:2015 certification and ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. Our mission is clear: "To develop and implement the National Quality Infrastructure in partnership with key stakeholders, towards sustainable socioeconomic development and consumer protection." We strive to be at the forefront of standards and quality assurance, envisioning to be the premier National Institution for Standards and Quality. International trade exists to meet the diverse needs and preferences of consumers by providing access to a wider range of goods and services from around the world. Accreditation plays a vital role in the global acceptance of products and services by ensuring that the relevant testing and measurement institutions are meeting requirements of international standards.
