“Break the silence, stop the period shame,” chanted stakeholders and students of Bartica Secondary School and Three Miles Secondary School as they marched through the town of Bartica to raise awareness about menstrual health.

The awareness walk formed part of the 2nd Sexual and Reproductive Health Symposium, a two-day event led by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health in collaboration with several United Nations agencies, including UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women, and PAHO/WHO. The initiative is supported by the Government of Canada.

Guyana's Candidate for the next UN Secretary-General, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, addressed the media after participating in the 'Interactive Dialogue' interview process in the UN General Assembly. There, she had the opportunity to lay out her vision for the role and respond directly to questions from member States and civil society.

One of her reasons for entering the race: "We are 14 member States of the Caribbean Community. And it was important, I think, for nationals from our region to put themselves forward."

Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett is one of six candidates currently in the race.

A Caribbean candidate enters the race to become the next UN Secretary-General!

🇬🇾 Having been formally nominated by the Government of , Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Guyana's Ambassador to the UN, participates today in the interactive dialogue process at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

These "interactive dialogues" serve as the ultimate job interview, during which candidates are given the opportunity to present their vision for the United Nations and take questions directly from UN Member States and civil society representatives.

The Caribbean also played a role in the nomination of the other new candidate, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés of Ecuador. The former UN General Assembly President and Ecuadorean Foreign Minister was nominated for the position by Antigua and Barbuda.

This process is designed to ensure the next leader reflects the diversity of the 8 billion people the UN serves and acts as a strong defender of the UN Charter.

A new era of United Nations partnership in the Caribbean is about to begin! 🇺🇳✨

Caribbean governments and the UN have set the stage for a strengthened development partnership at with the presentation of the new Multi Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (MSDCF) for the English and Dutch speaking Caribbean.

Covering 2027-2031, this framework will guide coordinated UN support to national and regional priorities, helping to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals and deliver meaningful results for people and communities across the region.

The Framework was presented during the 2026 Annual Coordination Meeting of the United Nations MSDCF for the Caribbean, convened on 16 June 2026 in Belize. 🇧🇿

Addressing , Roberto Valent, Director of the UN Development Coordination Office for Latin America and the Caribbean said the new cooperation framework that will guide UN partnership and development support in the Caribbean for the next five years must be ‘fit for purpose’ if it is to provide Caribbean countries with the support needed to achieve medium to long-term development goals.

The Annual Coordination Meeting of the United Nations Cooperation Framework (ACM) is a yearly gathering where the regional UN System leadership and Caribbean government representatives review progress on the region's shared development priorities and plan the road ahead.

The 2026 ACM carries special significance. Five years ago, the UN and governments across the region committed to a shared blueprint for regional development — the UN Caribbean Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (MSDCF) 2022–2026. That framework, which has guided United Nations partnership in the region, expires at the end of this year. Today lays the foundation for a new phase of United Nations Caribbean partnership.

On the agenda: the presentation of the 2025 Regional Results Report, taking stock of what the current framework delivered in its final year, followed by the formal presentation of the MSDCF 2027–2031.

The new framework will shape how the UN partners with countries and territories of the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean over the next five years, driving progress across four pillars of development that will be shared during the meeting.
