With the official nomination of H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, as a candidate for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, the interactive dialogue with the candidate has been scheduled to be convened on Thursday, 18 June, at 10 a.m. Ahead of this important engagement between Ambassador Rodrigues-Birkett and the member states of the UN, she shared the following message;

"As I embark on this journey seeking to be the next United Nations Secretary General, I begin the process with an informal Interactive Dialogue with the Membership of the United Nations, on Thursday 18 June 2026. This dialogue forms an important part of the selection process for the next Secretary General and will be livestreamed via the UN WebTV Portal. I am eager to share my vision, engage with the Membership, civil society and wider international community, and commit to maintaining a similar consultative posture once entrusted with the responsibility of serving as the world’s chief public servant."

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met with Ms. Elena Bertola and Mr. Joscelyn Magdeleine, Services Trade experts from the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on June 16, 2026, who are in Guyana conducting a National Services Trade Workshop from June 16 to June 19, 2026.

Minister Todd expressed his appreciation for the assistance provided by the WTO in facilitating the Workshop and its contribution towards the enhancement of Guyana’s services regulatory framework and building of national capacity for greater competitiveness in the services sector. He noted the importance of the WTO’s role in promoting a rules based international economic system, for Guyana as a small state and a rapidly developing country.

The workshop which counts on the participation of sector Ministries and Agencies has as its objective the further strengthening of national capacity and stakeholder engagement in the Services Sector.

Press Release

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation met on June 9, 2026 with Mr. Patrice Quesada , Coordinator for the Caribbean and Chief of Mission of Barbados of the International Organisation for Migration, who is on an official visit to Guyana. He was accompanied by Ms. Eraina Yaw, Head of the International Organisation for Migration Office in Guyana.
Minister Todd noted the invaluable role of the International Organisation for Migration in promoting the sustainable management of migration in Guyana. He also noted the important role of migration to Guyana in satisfying the demands of the labour market and providing necessary skills, particularly in view of recent economic developments in Guyana.

Mr. Quesada reiterated the commitment of the IOM Office in Guyana to continued support for the priority areas in migration identified by Guyana in accordance with its national agenda.

Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Guyana to the UN, Ms. Abosede Hazlewood, has been elected to serve as Vice Chair of Bureau of the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) for the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

Ms. Hazlewood has been Guyana’s expert on the Third Committee for the past few years. Last year, she co-led negotiations on behalf of the Group of 77 and China towards a Political Declaration on Non-Communicable Diseases.
