Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026 Gets Underway Tomorrow....................................................................
Georgetown, Guyana – The wait is over as the curtains officially rise on the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026, bringing together some of the most talented young debaters for weeks of spirited competition and thoughtful discussion.
Running from June 12 to July 14, 2026, the competition will feature 20 teams from across the country that successfully advanced from the recently concluded 4th Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition. Participants will debate a range of contemporary issues, demonstrating their research skills, critical thinking, and ability to present and defend arguments on matters of national importance.
Hosted in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, the competition continues to serve as a valuable platform for encouraging youth engagement in public discourse and promoting a deeper understanding of democratic processes.
The opening day of competition, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, June 12, 2026, will feature three Round One debates. For the morning session, the two matchups are as follows:
For Match One of Round One, the Proposing Gen Advocates Youth Group will debate the Opposing University of Guyana Students’ Society from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The Moot is: Guyana should implement term limits for all elected Members of Parliament.
Match Two of Round One will feature the Proposing Rising Voices Youth Group against the Opposing Reasoning Collective Youth Group from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Moot is: Guyana’s judicial system is independent and effective.
For the afternoon session, match three of the round one debates will feature the Proposing J.C Chandisingh Secondary Orators Group vs the Opposing Nextgen Youth Group from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Moot is: The education system is adequately preparing students for an AI society.
Members of the public are encouraged to follow the debates through the Parliament of Guyana’s livestream and social media platforms. Viewers are also invited to join the conversation by leaving comments online, which will be shared during the debates.
As the competition begins, participants, supporters, and viewers alike can look forward to a series of engaging debates showcasing the talent, confidence, and perspectives of Guyana’s youth.
