NextGen Youth Group victorious in Match 3 of the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026

Georgetown, Guyana – June 12, 2026 – The NextGen Youth Group today emerged as winners as they faced off against the J.C Chandisingh Secondary School Orators in Match 3 of Round 1 in the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026.

This virtual debate was held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the moot: “The education system is adequately preparing students for an AI society.”

After the rebuttals, the judges commended the participants for their impressive performances, provided constructive feedback and valuable recommendations, highlighting areas for improvement while encouraging the debaters to continue refining their argumentation and delivery techniques.

When the dust settled, the judges' average scores were 186 to 179.

Despite the loss, Ms. Jolena Camacho of the J.C Chandisingh Secondary School Orators was awarded the Best Debater for her exceptional presentation, persuasive arguments, and commanding presence during the debate.

The Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition continues to serve as an important platform for youth engagement, fostering critical thinking, public speaking, and civic participation while nurturing the next generation of leaders and advocates across Guyana.

Georgetown, Guyana – June 12, 2026 – The Reasoning Collective Youth Group today emerged as winners as they faced off against the Rising Voices Youth Group in Match 2 of Round 1 in the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026.
This virtual debate was held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., on the moot: “Guyana’s Judicial system is independent and effective.”
After the rebuttals, the judges commended the participants for their impressive performances, provided constructive feedback and valuable recommendations, highlighting areas for improvement while encouraging the debaters to continue refining their argumentation and delivery techniques.
When the dust settled, the judges' average scores were 205 to 189.
Ms. Athaliyah Felicien of the Reasoning Collective Youth Group was awarded the Best Debater for her exceptional presentation, persuasive arguments, and commanding presence during the debate.

Gen Advocates Youth Group Defeats University of Guyana Student Society in Opening Round 1 of Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026.

Georgetown, Guyana – June 12, 2026 – The Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026 commenced with an exciting display of intellectual engagement as the Gen Advocates Youth Group faced off against the University of Guyana Student Society in Round 1, Match 1.
The debate, held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Parliament Chamber, on the compelling moot: “Guyana Should Implement Term Limits for All Elected Members of Parliament.”
Both teams delivered strong arguments, showcasing in-depth research, critical thinking, and confident public speaking skills throughout the contest.
Following the debate, the judges commended the participants for their impressive performances, provided constructive feedback and valuable recommendations, highlighting areas for improvement while encouraging the debaters to continue refining their argumentation and delivery techniques.
After the scores were tabulated and the results finalised by the judges, the proposing team, Gen Advocates Youth Group, secured victory with a total of 214 points, defeating the University of Guyana Student Society, which earned 197 points.
Among the standout debaters, Ms. Chelsey Griffith of the Gen Advocates Youth Group was awarded the Best Debater for her exceptional presentation, persuasive arguments, and commanding presence during the debate.

Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026 Gets Underway Tomorrow....................................................................

Georgetown, Guyana – The wait is over as the curtains officially rise on the Speaker’s National Youth Debating Competition 2026, bringing together some of the most talented young debaters for weeks of spirited competition and thoughtful discussion.

Running from June 12 to July 14, 2026, the competition will feature 20 teams from across the country that successfully advanced from the recently concluded 4th Speaker’s Regional Youth Debating Competition. Participants will debate a range of contemporary issues, demonstrating their research skills, critical thinking, and ability to present and defend arguments on matters of national importance.

Hosted in the Chamber of the Public Buildings, Brickdam, the competition continues to serve as a valuable platform for encouraging youth engagement in public discourse and promoting a deeper understanding of democratic processes.

The opening day of competition, scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, June 12, 2026, will feature three Round One debates. For the morning session, the two matchups are as follows:

For Match One of Round One, the Proposing Gen Advocates Youth Group will debate the Opposing University of Guyana Students’ Society from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The Moot is: Guyana should implement term limits for all elected Members of Parliament.

Match Two of Round One will feature the Proposing Rising Voices Youth Group against the Opposing Reasoning Collective Youth Group from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The Moot is: Guyana’s judicial system is independent and effective.

For the afternoon session, match three of the round one debates will feature the Proposing J.C Chandisingh Secondary Orators Group vs the Opposing Nextgen Youth Group from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Moot is: The education system is adequately preparing students for an AI society.
