World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day and is celebrated on 20 November each year to promote international togetherness, awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare.

November 20th is an important date as it is the date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Since 1990, World Children's Day also marks the anniversary of the date that the UN General Assembly adopted both the Declaration and the Convention on children's rights.

Mothers and fathers, teachers, nurses and doctors, government leaders and civil society activists, religious and community elders, corporate moguls and media professionals, as well as young people and children themselves, can play an important part in making World Children's Day relevant for their societies, communities and nations.

World Children's Day offers each of us an inspirational entry-point to advocate, promote and celebrate children's rights, translating into dialogues and actions that will build a better world for children.

This year, the COVID-19 crisis has resulted in a child rights crisis. The costs of the pandemic for children are immediate and, if unaddressed, may last a lifetime.

It’s time for generations to come together to reimagine the type of world we want to create. On 20 November, kids will reimagine a better world. What will you do?

We were founded in 1946 to provide life-saving support to the most vulnerable children in the aftermath of World War 2. Seventy years on, and our mission is no ...

Mitigation Energy Tip of the Day.

Rain water tanks can be used to collect water which can be used in the house
for washing and cleaning purposes.

Tanks can be mounted on trestles so that you can make use of gravity flow, thus reducing the need to use electric or fuel-driven pumps.

"...there will be an increase...The increase in rain days and rainfall intensities is likely to result in an increase in flash flood potential as the season progresses. The public may wish to note that the forecast is suggesting an increase in accumulated rainfall and not that there will be rainfall every day throughout the season. There will be periods with reduced or no rainfall as well as periods of excessive rainfall."

Rainfall and Weather Advisory!

The National Weather Watch Centre is reporting that Coastal Regions One to Six and Region Ten will experience showers and isolated thundershowers for the rest of the morning with an improvement as the day progresses.

Inland areas of Regions Seven and Eight will experience moderate showers and thundershowers in the afternoon hours.

The anticipated rainfall is forecast to be between 25mm over Regions One to Six and Ten, and 15mm to 30mm elsewhere.

The above normal high tides advisory is still in effect.

The Civil Defence Commission has deployed assessment teams to accurately capture the impact of the weather on public and private infrastructure.

To this end the CDC is advising residents of riverain, low-lying and flood prone areas to take all necessary precautions and to contact the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) on 226-1114, 623-1700 and 600-7500, should they be affected.
