As part of the Region Two Cabinet Outreach, Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, visited the Richard Faikall Police College, Suddie, Essequibo Coast.

Zara Computer Centre (ZCC) donated a number of computers to the police college, and representatives of ZCC and ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) are training sixteen (16) students in a number of programmes.

Just last month, 491 students from Suddie and neighbouring communities graduated from 19 programmes, including Police Training, Microsoft Office Programming, PC Repairs and Web Designs

Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, earlier today, attended a consultation on the Guyana/Venezuela Border Controversy in the boardroom of the Regional Democratic Council, Region Two.

As part of the two-day Cabinet Outreach in Region Two, Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, donated a number of fire detectors and helmets to residents of Ponoma Village.

Minister Benn was joined by the Minister within the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Anand Persaud, MP. The Ministers listened to the residents concerns and assured them that their participation is key to countrywide development.

Minister Benn also conducted meetings with residents of Middlesex Village, staff of the General Registrar Office (GRO), Administrator (a) and New Opportunity Corps (NOC).

Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, earlier today, donated twenty-two (22) motorcycle helmets to the Charity Police Station, Region Two.

This donation is part of the first Cabinet Outreach to the Region, where Ministers continue to maintain contact with residents on the ground in an effort to meet the needs of all Guyanese.

Minister Benn also visited the site of the ongoing reconstruction of the Charity Police Station, the recently renovated Anna Regina Police Station, the Anna Regina Fire Station, and the Charity Waterfront.

Permanent Secretary, Ms. Mae Toussaint. Jr Thomas and other staff of the Ministry also participated in the outreach.

Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, met with the Director of Business Development at Canadian Bank Note Company, Ms. Fuencisla Leal-Santiago, to discuss resuming a project to issue biometric passports (e-passports) to all citizens.

The e-passports will be machine readable and contain biographical data on the passport holder.

Minister Benn was joined by Permanent Secretary, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas, the Ministry’s Expenditure Planning and Management Analyst Officer, Ms. Simone Simon, Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Superintendent Dennis Stephens, Head of the Guyana Police Force’s Information Technology Department, Superintendent Jermaine Johnson, and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Clifton Hicken.

Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, yesterday, joined the President of Guyana and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, in the handover of fifty (50) new vehicles to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.

Minister Benn noted that while serious crimes have decreased by 21 per cent compared to last year, this fleet of police vehicles will aid in officers responding to crime and emergencies in an effective and timely manner in further efforts to reduce crime.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Hon. Mohabir Anil Nandlall, SC, MP, Permanent Secretary, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas, Commissioner of Police (Ag), Mr. Nigel Hoppie, and other high-ranking officials of the GPF and Joint Services also attended the handover.

Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, received a courtesy call from Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Guyana, His Excellency Alexander Kurmaz.

Mr. Kurmaz updated Minister Benn on the Guyanese students who were awarded Russian Government scholarships to the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), and lauded Minister Benn’s plan to implement training programmes in the prison system to prevent reoffending.

Minister Benn was accompanied by Permanent Secretary, Ms. Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas.

#ENDGENDERBASEDVIOLENCE | Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn, MP, met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of the United Bridge Builders Mission Inc. (UBBM), Ms. Bonita Montaque, to strengthen partnership against Gender Based Violence.

UBBM has also collaborated with the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security – Child Protection Agency, as well as the Ministries of Education, Health, and Culture, Youth and Sport.

These Ministries joined UBBM’s activism by signing the Orange Bow, which represents a symbolic end to Gender Based Violence.

The Ministry of Home Affairs kept the bow for one month, and will pass it on to the Ministry of Health.

Principal Assistant Secretary (G) Administration, Ms. Shireen Andrews, and other representatives of UBBM were also present.

Back in June, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas signed three contracts totaling $1.2 billion with Mohamed Enterprise, M&P Investment in a joint venture with Construtora Cobra Eireli, and Nabi Construction Inc. for the reconstruction of the Lusignan Prison, Lots 1-3, under the Guyana Prison Service.

The Government of Guyana is welcoming a United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Global Fi****ms Programme (GFP) Project that was launched under the theme, “Support to the implementation of the crime prevention and criminal justice component of the Caribbean Roadmap to counter illicit fi****ms trafficking and misuse across the Caribbean in a sustainable manner by 2030.”

This project aims to prevent and counter illicit circulation and misuse of fi****ms and their links to serious crimes.

Funded by Germany, this project is in cooperation with the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS), and the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC).

Home Affairs Minister, Hon. Robeson Benn said that this project is timely and fortunate for Guyana. The collaboration will aim to produce a more comprehensive assessment of criminal justice response capacities, and to contribute to the understanding of national priorities in countering firearm-trafficking-related crimes.

The delegation intends to collaborate with the Ministries of Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Legal Affairs, as well as the Department of Public Prosecutor, the Guyana Police Force, and the Guyana Revenue Authority

The project was launched on March 1, 2021, and covers the Caribbean Region, including all CARICOM Member States.
