The Inter-Guyana Games (IGG) were held in Guyana from 5–7 December, bringing together youth athletes from Suriname, Guyana, and French Guiana for three days of spirited competition and regional camaraderie. The long-standing tri-nation event featured disciplines such as athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, futsal, and chess, providing a platform for young competitors aged 14–18 to showcase their talents. Hosted across major national facilities including the National Track and Field Centre, the National Aquatic Centre, and the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall the Games served not only as a sporting showcase but also as a celebration of cultural exchange and unity among the Guianas.
This year’s edition delivered intense competition, with Suriname emerging as the overall champion, closely followed by Guyana and French Guiana. Guyana delivered strong performances in athletics, chess, and futsal, while Suriname dominated in swimming and volleyball. Despite the competitive spirit, officials emphasized that the true essence of the Games lies in fostering friendship, cooperation, and youth development across the region. The 2025 IGG concluded with renewed commitment from all three territories to continue strengthening ties through sport, as the tradition of the Inter-Guyana Games remains an important symbol of unity among the neighbouring nations.
