Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan, attended the 5th Regional Meeting of Directors/Heads of Maritime Administration, hosted at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre.
While standing before the room, which was filled with collective custodians of our region's waters, the individuals tasked with navigating the complex challenges of maritime safety, security, and sustainability, Minister Edghill urged the crucial discussion that will transcend the routine administrative talks and delve into the scale of our responsibilities in the blue economy.
“With you all gathered here, I trust the conversation won’t just be administrative but that of the blue economy. We must also confront a sobering reality. We have frequently remind that if there is to be another world war, it will not be fought over land or oil; it will be fought over water.
Water is important. Because water is so vital, we cannot afford to take a passive approach to its stewardship. Therefore, let there be time dedicated to sustained discussions that focus specifically on developing and safeguarding our water resources.”
Also present was Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar and Member of Parliament, Thandi McAlister, among other regional directors and heads, including President of the Shipping Association of Guyana, Komal Singh. This is the first time the meeting is being held in Guyana.
