Brief History of the School
The Christianburg Wismar Secondary School resulted from the transition of Preston High to Kara Kara High school and then Wismar Christianburg Multilateral School. The transition involved the change over from private ownership to government ownership. The Preston High School was established and privately owned by Mr. E.A.Wilson who owned another school in New Amsterdam.
Preston High School was housed in the building of the Mechanic Pride Lodge No 21, which is located at the mouth of Victory Valley. This school was the only secondary school on the western side of the Demerara River for a number of years. In April 1970, the school was shifted to new quarters in Kara Kara on the eastern side of the Demerara River. In 1972 the school became privately owned and then was changed to link with its locale the school changed location to its first thought location ‘’BLUEBERRY HILL’’; the name was also changed to Christianburg Wismar Multilateral School, at this stage the school once more became government-owned. Christianburg Wismar Multilateral School came into existence on 15 September 1975. This uniquely built school is a three-storied building with a row of teacher’s apartments in its basement. The uniform of the school was the traditional green and white until 1987/1988 when it was changed to light blue and dark blue. In 1990 the school was renamed Christianburg Wismar Secondary School. Head Teachers who served this school from its inception are Mr. Leslie James, Dr. Leyland Mason, Mr. John Pillay, Mr. George Cave, Mr. Edmund London, Mr. Frank Corlette, Mr. Joseph McKenzie, Mr. Martin Porter, Ms. Avilda Arokium, Ms. Gwendolyn George- Albert, Mr. Cleveland Thomas, and Shellanne Craigwell. Other persons who acted as headteachers at this school are Ms. Dianah Rutherford, Mr. Owen Wray, Ms. Ingrid Barnes, Ms. Louise Dowding –Hall, and Ms. Carlyn Canterbury. Secretaries who served this school are Ms. Eugine George, Ms. June Miller, Ms. Janice Waterton, Ms. Juliet Sears, Ms. Monica Castang, and Ms. Olecia King. The present Secretary is Ms. Trelisa Nicholas Millington Edwards. VISION

The Christianburg Wismar Secondary school sets out to provide students with opportunities to develop skills and competence in a variety of areas that will help to boost their self-image, self-respect, and confidence. Our school also seeks to sharpen students’ sense of wonder and their capacity to experiment and create. Enabling them to become involved in national life; capable of making decisions on their own, and in the interest of the nation. This will result in hastening towards the realization of a society that is united and self-reliant. MOTTO

School Rules
1. Students are expected to attend school regularly and punctually.
2. Jewellery, coated nails, and elaborate hairstyles are not permitted.
3. Students must provide written excuses from parent/guardians whenever he/she is absent, late or cannot wear the correct uniform.
4. Two black ribbons, black shoes, and black footwear must be worn at all times.
5. Attendance at general assemblies is compulsory.
6. Students must not loiter along the corridor.
7. Monitors must ensure that students keep their classroom surroundings clean.
8. Name-calling, indecent language, and any form of sexual harassment are prohibited.
9. Fighting in or out of classrooms is not tolerated.
10. Students must not damage, destroy, or steal school property. Dress regulations
1) Hair accessories: only black rubber bands are allowed, along with a black ribbon.
2) Shoe and socks: plain black shoes and black socks must be worn by boys and girls at all times. Socks must be 7.5cm above the top of the shoes.
3) Make-up and nail polish are NOT allowed.
4) No coloured braids, weaves or wigs are allowed or any fancy coloured hair ornament.
5) The boys’ uniform shirt is expected to have uplettes with strips, according to Grade and pants and shirt should be a loose fit. Grade 7 / Form I – 1 strip,
Grade 8 / Form II – 2 strips
Grade 9 / Form III – 3 strips.
6) All uniform skirts with knife pleats begins from the girl’s hip.
7) Girls skirts should be 4 inches below the knee. NOTE: If parents are unable to have the appropriate uniform, it is expected that the parent SEND A WRITTEN EXCUSE stating the reason for this and specifying the period where this will last. If any parent fails to do so his/her child will be sent home.
