#濕地生態【蝶角蛉】
大家最近有冇喺郊外見過呢啲好似蝴蝶又好似蜻蜓嘅小昆蟲呢？佢哋其實係蝶角蛉。今日就等我哋一齊睇吓佢哋由卵到成蟲嘅奇妙生命旅程啦！
🥚 卵
蝶角蛉媽媽會將卵產喺幼長枝條或者草葉上面。啲卵通常係淺褐色，一粒粒咁排列，就好似一串迷你珍珠咁，好得意㗎！
🐛 幼蟲
幼蟲差不多同一時間孵出，剛孵出嘅幼蟲係淺褐色，橢圓形腹部帶刺，頭部有一對非常巨大嘅顎，令佢哋成為厲害嘅捕食者！佢哋平時會喺枝葉上靜靜咁守候，當獵物路過時就會用佢哋強而有力嘅大顎去捕捉同吸取獵物嘅體液！
⭕ 成蟲
長大後嘅蝶角蛉，有對大而凸出嘅複眼，同埋一對長長、好似蝴蝶特徵嘅觸角。另外，成蟲有相對細長嘅腹部同兩對透明嘅翅膀，所以好容易被人誤認係蜻蜓！不過同蜻蜓唔同，蝶角蛉嘅翅膀喺休息時較少水平伸展，而且佢哋大多晝伏夜出，日間經常喺草條上停留。
下次大家見到類似嘅昆蟲，不妨睇真啲，考考眼力，睇吓認唔認得出佢係蝶角蛉定係蜻蜓啦！

Have you recently seen these little insects in the countryside that look like both butterflies and dragonflies? They are actually owlflies. Today let’s take a look at their fascinating life journey from egg to adult!
🥚 Egg
The female owlflies usually lay eggs on twigs or grass leaves. The eggs are generally light brown, arranged one after another like a string of tiny and cute pearls!
🐛 Larva
The larvae hatch nearly at the same time. Freshly emerged larvae are light brown, with a slightly rounded, spiny abdomen and a pair of large mandibles on the head, making them formidable predators. They usually lie quietly on tree leaves or barks. When their prey approaches, they use their powerful mandibles to catch and consume them!
⭕ Adult
When maturing into adults, owlflies have large, protruding compound eyes and share the characteristic of a butterfly of having a pair of long antennae. Adult owlflies also have an elongated abdomen and two pairs of transparent wings, making them often be mistaken for dragonflies! Different from dragonflies, owlflies seldom spread their wings in horizontal position during rest and are active at dusk and night while staying on grass leaves in daytime.
Next time when you see a similar insect, take a closer look, test your eyesight, and see if you can tell whether it’s an owlfly or a dragonfly!
