Peggy and Luke are two adult adoptees, Luke through Mother’s Choice. They recently shared their stories at our ‘Telling of Adoption I: Lifebook Making’ workshop, on the joys, the confusion, the searching, and the gratitude they've carried along the way. 📖

It gave adoptive parents the adoptee perspective on children's needs and feelings while discussing adoption.

The Young Writers Club gives youths the chance to tell stories that raise awareness for Mother's Choice. Stories about our families and impacts, told by their generation, for their generation.

On 29 August, Baker & Bloom Education Center led the first class. It was wonderful to see the students’ curiosity and compassion. Their own ideas started taking shape, each of them thinking about how to be a voice of change and inspire other young people to help too.

We can’t wait to find out what they’ll choose to write. Stay tuned! 😊

青年寫作學會提供寶貴平台，讓年青一代撰寫故事，與同齡人分享我們的家庭及影響背後的點滴，令大眾更認識「母親的抉擇」。

We loved Google Family Day! 💜

On 6 August, over 100 people joined us. At the Mother's Choice art corner, children and parents were painting, creating, and making happy memories together. Before long, our booth had become one of the busiest on site!

As summer comes to a close, we came together with our summer interns to celebrate all they've experienced, learned, and given these past few months ☀️

Calling all young writers who want to tell stories that matter! ✍️

We're excited to partner with Baker & Bloom Education Center on a special-edition Young Writers' Club. Students will step into the shoes of journalists to interview change makers, learn the stories behind our mission, and write about issues facing vulnerable children and families in Hong Kong.

The course will be taught by Ms. Lenore Look, an award-winning author, veteran journalist, and beloved writing coach of over five years.

Stephanie和Jack曾經期待育有孩子，但一度未能如願。於是，Stephanie到「母親的抉擇」幼兒之家做義工，每星期抽出一個下午，為孩子換片、餵奶、講故事和陪伴玩耍。在此，她體會到，只要有人願意陪伴在旁，孩子已能感受滿滿的愛。

後來兒子出生，這份感受仍然留在Stephanie心中。她和Jack認為，成為寄養家庭，便可為更多孩子打開家門。於是，他們透過「母親的抉擇」自資寄養服務橋樑計劃成為替假寄養家庭，在其他寄養家庭需要休息時，照顧孩子。

家從此不一樣。Stephanie說：「全家的氣氛真的不同了，很熱鬧，很開心。這就是最大的得益。」

Stephanie and Jack once longed for children of their own, and for a while, it didn't happen. So Stephanie began volunteering at the Mother's Choice Child Care Home, spending an afternoon each week changing nappies, feeding, reading stories, and playing. There, she discovered how much love a child could feel from someone who simply showed up for them.

When her son was later born, that feeling stayed with her. She and Jack realised that as a foster family, they could open their home to many children over the years. So they became respite foster parents through Mother's Choice's self-financed foster care programme Project Bridge, stepping in to care for children when their regular foster families need rest.

It's changed their home in the best way possible. "The whole atmosphere is different now, it's lively, it's joyful. That's the greatest gift of all."

來自我們兒童服務的 Kanice 對一個孩子的記憶猶新。當他加入寄養家庭時，他很被動，很少與人互動。

但加入寄養家庭生活一段時間後，他變得不再一樣。 Kanice 說：「當我再次見到他時，他會主動笑、玩耍，與身邊的人互動得更自然，你可以看得出來他的笑容不同了。」

想成為寄養家長不需要符合某種固定的標準。 Kanice 說：「單身人士和單親家庭都可以申請，最重要的是有一顆願意承擔的心。」

There is one little boy that Kanice, from our Children Services, vividly remembers. When he first joined his foster family, he was very withdrawn, mostly keeping to himself.

But then, after joining his foster family for some time, something changed. "When I saw him again, he would smile, play, and reach out to the people around him," she says. "You could see it... His smile was different."

Foster parents don't need to fit a certain mould. "Single people and single-parent families can all apply. What matters most is having the heart to take it on," says Kanice.
