𝐀 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 🇦🇹🌏

After three years of dedicated service as Austria’s Consul General in Hong Kong, from 2023 to 2026, the time has come to bid farewell and embark on a new chapter.

His journey in the Austrian Foreign Service began in 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟏, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚. Over the course of an impressive 𝟑𝟓-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲, his professional journey took him across the globe - eventually bringing him from the other side of the world, from Peru to Hong Kong.

During his tenure in Hong Kong, he represented Austria with great dedication, commitment and diplomatic experience, while embracing the city and its many facets. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he developed a particular appreciation for Hong Kong’s remarkable hiking trails and landscapes, as well as for its vibrant and diverse art scene.

The entire team of the Austrian Consulate General in Hong Kong would like to express its sincere gratitude for his leadership, dedication and collegiality and for the many memorable moments and achievements shared over the past three years.

As he now concludes an extraordinary 𝟑𝟓-𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 and enters retirement, we wish him good health, happiness and fulfilment in this new chapter of life - with plenty of time for art, hiking, travel and new discoveries.

The “𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞” in Hong Kong is carried out by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Hong Kong in cooperation with the Austrian Consulate General Hong Kong as part of the global outreach programme 𝐑𝐞𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚. ✨

🌿Building on discussions with designers, retailers, sustainability experts, innovators and industry organizations since 2023, the initiative connects Austrian expertise in 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 with the dynamic fashion ecosystem of Hong Kong and Asia.

The possibility of assessing foreign higher education qualifications in Austria can make entry into the labour market easier. An assessment is an official report that is used for better evaluation and comparison of your diploma for employers or the Labour Market Service. In this webinar representatives of ENIC NARIC AUSTRIA – National Academic Recognition Information Centre – will give information about the opportunities and limits of assessment reports, when it is useful and how to apply.

The EU Office and the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong successfully hosted the 5th "Greenway 2026," drawing over 300 leaders from government, business, and civil society.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬:
• 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: Building green urban environments.
• 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Innovative transport via air, land, and sea.

• 𝐄𝐔 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡: Empowering Hong Kong’s innovation drive.

Belinda Esterhammer, prominent member of the Austrian business community in Hong Kong and CEO of "The Do Asia", guided the audience as MC through the EU's Greeway 2026.

The event was opened by Paul Lam (Acting Chief Executive of the HKSAR) and Ambassador Harvey Rouse (Head of the EU Office), who highlighted how EU-Hong Kong cooperation turns climate ambition into economic opportunity.
Keynote speakers included Bureau Secretaries Christopher Hui (Financial Services), Tse Chin-wan (Environment), and Permanent Secretary Kevin Choi (Innovation).

During the event, Acting Financial Secretary Michael Wong received policy recommendations for accelerating Hong Kong’s green transition. These were compiled by the European Chamber of Commerce and supported by the HKGCC.

As a global climate leader, the EU continues to drive international decarbonisation through partnership and innovation.

The Austrian Consulate General in Hong Kong was pleased to welcome a group of students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong for an informative briefing session, who will study in Vienna and Graz. The students will be studying in Vienna and Graz.

The students were greeted by Consul General Dr Gerhard Zettl, and a member of Consulate staff provided insights into Austria through a presentation covering the country’s history, culture, economy, education system and international engagement.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, which gave the students the chance to find out more about Austria and the work of the Consulate General.

We thank the students for their interest and participation, and we look forward to future opportunities to strengthen the academic and cultural links between Austria and Hong Kong.
