Yesterday, His Excellency Mr. John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, led a delegation of city officials in commemorating the 81st anniversary of victory in the War of Resistance, paying tribute to the fallen and honoring the patriots who sacrificed for their homeland and convictions. Witnessing this ceremony underscores a profound value deeply rooted in Iran: sacrifice for one’s country and resistance against aggression are universally regarded as sacred and commendable values, regardless of geography. This value is reflected in Iran’s longstanding tradition of honoring martyrs, veterans, and all those who have sacrificed their lives and well-being for their beliefs and homeland.
In Iran, nearly one million martyrs and veterans have become part of a long history of resistance and national defense. Over the past 47 years, the Iranian people have paid a heavy price in resisting aggression and excessive demands, including the sacrifice of their Supreme Leader in defense of Iran. More than 1,300 people were killed in the war of June last year, around 3,600 in the February 2026 war, and dozens more in the latest hostilities. Honoring resistance is not merely remembrance; it strengthens national solidarity, resilience, and collective purpose. More than 41 million people in Iran and Iraq took part in the funeral and commemorative ceremonies for the martyred leader, reflecting the profound place of resistance in Iranian society.
Geographies may differ, but the honoring of sacrifice, steadfastness, and the defense of one’s homeland is universal. Resistance, wherever people stand for their land, dignity, and convictions, is a noble and sacred cause worthy of respect.
