| Ritu's Dream on a Narrow Path

Along a small dirt path in Adarsha Rural Municipality of Doti, 19-year-old Ritu Bohora walks carrying her toddler. She looks like many other young mothers in rural Nepal, but her life story is filled with pain, loss, and quiet courage.

Ritu is a Dalit woman, a victim of both forced marriage and forced migration. After they got married, she went with him to India where he worked as a factory worker. Months afer, her husband died due to an accident in the factory.

Now, Ritu lives with his son and mother-in-law back in Nepal, still feeling the burden of what happened but also hoping for a better future for his son.

Last 25-26 May, APMM visited partners and migrants in Nepal to hold a consultation and a training on access to information. The two activities gathered a total of 12 participants who shared about their experiences within the migration cycle and the structural issues faced everyday by migrants โ€“ from the moment they apply for a job until they reintegrate back to their countryโ€™s society.

Spearheaded by the Lutheran World Federation LWF Nepal , the activities convened representatives from POURAKHI Nepal, WOREC, Tarangini Foundation, Shramik Sanjal, and grassroots returned migrants from different parts of the country.

This is the first webinar in a series that will be hosted by IMAASN as a lead up to the 7th International Migrants Alliance General Assembly. In this workshop series we will be exploring academic methods for peoplesโ€™ research that is carried out with and for grassroots, migrant-led organizations.

Please watch and share!

Around 104,000 seasonal workers keep the farming and fisheries industry in South Korea running.
They are treated as cheap and disposable workers.
Yet, they are rising and organizing, launching campaigns, gathering solidarity, and building movements.
They have won some changes for their immediate situations, and are continuously calling for structural changes.
