Airside Transit Visa in Hong Kong

The Honorary Consulate of Sri Lanka in Hong Kong and Macao has received an email from the Immigration Department of the HKSAR and reflected it to the Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing (12 June 2026) regarding the update policy on transit visa for Sri Lankan passport holders.

Under the prevailing policy, nationals of Sri Lanka are required to hold a valid visa for Hong Kong for whatever purpose, including those who are in transit and remain on the airside. Holders of Sri Lankan diplomatic or official passports may visit Hong Kong visa-free for a stay not exceeding 14 days.
Having said that, the airside transit visa requirement for Sri Lankan passengers on Cathay Pacific flights has been temporary suspended, subject to the fulfilment of requisite conditions. These conditions include, among others, the passenger is holding a valid entry visa bound for destinations in or residence visa / permit of including Australia, Canada, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA or a Schengen Member State, and that the scheduled departure of the passenger from Hong Kong must be within 12 hours of scheduled arrival in Hong Kong.
As the arrangement is temporary and subject to the fulfilment of conditions by both the airline and passenger, travelers are advised to approach the airline direct for the latest arrangement on airside transit.
You may wish to note that a visa is still required if the requisite conditions are not completely fulfilled. For information on visa/entry permit requirements for visitors to Hong Kong, please visit the following website:https://www.immd.gov.hk/eng/services/visas/visit-transit/visit-visa-entry-permit.html
