Please join us on November 19th in Hong Kong when we come together to raise funds for the Elephant Foundation and awareness by talking about good news in conservation. Our guests this year will be Richard Turere and Avi Shuklaa who have invented systems that deter lions and elephants from livestock and communities. Please message us if you wish more information, details of how to get tickets or simply wish to support by making a donation

Yesterday we and lionlights_africa had a very good meeting with the guys from Eliminate Takataka in Kimana who work hard to clear Kimana of rubbish that is seemingly never ending. We talked about ways how we can support this effort …. Watch this space for updates as to how you can support this amazing initiative

Our mission at The Elephant Foundation has always been about protecting both elephants and rhinos. These iconic giants share the same landscapes, the same ecosystems, and unfortunately, the same threats from illegal poaching.

Operating right here in Hong Kong, we work tirelessly to educate the next generation and eliminate the local demand for illegal wildlife products like rhino horn and ivory. Did you know rhino horn is made of keratin—the exact same material as your own fingernails? It has absolutely zero medicinal value.

Through our programs, we’ve reached over 50,000 students while providing vital funding to wildlife rangers on the ground in East Africa who protect these majestic creatures daily.

This World Rhino Day, let’s stand together to protect our planet’s megafauna.

People like Josh who do so much to promote and protect the wonders of the African landscape and its wildlife are rare and special. Our condolences to his family and those family members of others who perished on what was meant to be a spectacular morning but one that turned into tragedy.

Major Ivory Seizure in Vietnam

We are hearing news that the Vietnamese authorities have seized nearly 1.2 tons of ivory in the port of Quy Nhon, representing about 221 tusks. Also in the shipment were found 79kg of big cat bones.

The articles were sealed inside modifies logs from the Republic of Congo. The good news is that authorities have detained several suspects and we sincerely hope this leads to others in the chain being caught. In the meantime the problem is that there is still a huge demand for ivory and other rare animal parts in the Asian region and until the demand stops the killing will continue. Only elephants need ivory …… its hardly a sign of class and prestige to display ivory on a shelf, in full knowledge of how it gets to that shelf and the pain and suffering endured by baby elephants left behind.

There are only 415,000 elephants left in the wild, when will our unadulterated greed wake up and realise that we need to save them before its too late?
