Asia Art Archive (AAA) is an independent non-profit organisation initiated in 2000 in response to the urgent need to document and make accessible the multiple recent histories of art in the region. With one of the most valuable collections of material on art freely available from its website and onsite library, AAA builds tools and communities to collectively expand knowledge through research, res

【xoxo, AAA | Amandine Vabre Chau and Lemeeze Davids】

How does a palm tree inspire conversations between two cities?

“6414.36 nautical miles” is a research project by Amandine Vabre Chau and Lemeeze Davids, tracing the shared inheritances of imperialism between Hong Kong and Cape Town through nature, urban planning, and contemporary art. Their conversations began at the New Curators programme, where they met as fellows. Their inquiry into botanical imperialism and port-city histories was inspired by a talk at AAA, and was further developed through A4 Arts Foundation’s Course of Enquiry programme.

As part of our 25th anniversary campaign “xoxo, AAA,” we are spotlighting the work of our frequent library users and the ways AAA’s Collections have supported their research. Amandine and Lemeeze are the first in a mini-series featuring researchers who have made the archive their own.

【International Archives Week | Talks on The Art of Archiving】

For Hong Kong International Archives Week 2026, AAA collaborates with Hong Kong Archives Society to organise two talks on 6 June, the day of the Archives Expo.

The first talk gathers art archives professionals, Joyce Chan, Tina Pang, Doris P**n, and Hazel Kwok, to share their methodologies and activation strategies. In this talk, speakers will draw from their experiences at museums, media archives, and corporate archives to discuss core archival practices and curatorial tactics.

The second talk brings together artists Natalie Lo Lai Lai, Pak Sheung Chuen, and Tsz Wai Pun to share first-hand experiences and reflections on archival practices from a creator’s perspective. Joined by AAA’s Head of Research & Archives, Anthony Yung, their insights will be discussed in dialogue with concerns from the fields of art history and art archives, exploring the challenges and possibilities of documenting artistic processes and preserving intangible materials.

【國際檔案週｜藝術檔案實踐講座】

適逢國際檔案週，文獻庫與香港檔案學會合作，於檔案博覽當日（6月6日）舉行兩場講座。

首場講座邀請藝術檔案人員分享其檔案工作與活化策略。文獻庫助理策展人郭樞棋將分享其核心工作與策展實踐，並聯同來自博物館、媒體藝術庫藏及企業歷史檔案的專家陳君堯、彭綺雲及潘韻怡，探討香港藝術檔案的不同面貌，分享蒐集重要藝術文獻及活化館藏的經驗。

第二場講座匯聚藝術家勞麗麗、白雙全及潘子懷從創作者的視角分享檔案實踐的第一手經驗，並由文獻庫研究及檔案總監翁子健參與對談，結合藝術史研究及檔案專業領域的關注，共同探索記錄藝術過程、保存無形資料的種種挑戰與可能。

Applications for AAA’s Summer Internship 2026 are due Friday, 29 May 2026!

We offer long-term (45 days) and short-term (30 days) internships to undergraduate and graduate students from both local and international schools. The in-person internship at our Hong Kong office will run from June to November 2026.

【Summer Study Programme for Emerging Art Educators】

The second edition of “Summer Studio” is now open for applications!

Bringing together a new generation of teachers interested in contemporary art education through a series of artist workshops, discussions, and resource sharings, this programme considers how contemporary art may be situated within the classroom.

Running from 15 July to 22 August, the programme features artist-led workshops by Tozer Pak Sheung Chuen, Tang Kwok Hin, and Wong Ka Ying, exploring themes of art and everyday life, drawing and medium, and gender and identity. Artist Yeung Sau-churk will also lead a workshop that focuses on the participants’ lesson plans.

In the following school term, AAA’s team and five experienced Visual Arts teachers will continue to support the participants in implementing their ideas using AAA’s Collections.

第二屆「共學一夏：新晉藝術教師研習計劃」現已接受報名！

「共學一夏」旨在為對當代藝術教育感興趣的新晉教師提供交流與學習平台，結合藝術家工作坊、教學主題討論及資源分享，探討如何將當代藝術帶入課堂。

本屆活動邀請三位教學經驗豐富的藝術家帶領創意工作坊，包括白雙全、鄧國騫及黃嘉瀛。工作坊涵蓋「藝術與日常」、「繪畫與材料」以及「性別與身份」等主題。藝術家楊秀卓亦將主持另一場工作坊，回應參加者所設計的教案。

本年度亦延續並深化師友計劃，教學及參與團隊和五位資深視覺藝術科老師將在隨後一個學期支援參加者在課堂中設計及實施教學計劃。

Applications for our Summer Internship programme are now open! We invite undergraduate and graduate students from local and overseas universities to join us for an in-person internship (30 or 45 days) at our Hong Kong office between June and November 2026.

This is a valuable opportunity to learn more about how a non-profit operates, explore new interpretations of contemporary art across Asia and beyond, and engage with artists, arts professionals, and fellow students from around the world. Please note that internships at AAA are unpaid, and we do not provide visa support.

【At 25 | Tehching Hsieh】

On a snowy day in New York, AAA’s Assistant Curator Hazel Kwok visited Tehching Hsieh at his studio to learn more about his early years in the city. Working as a restaurant janitor, the intense, repetitive nature of Hsieh’s daily labour may have laid the groundwork for his later action pieces. Watch the reel to find out more.

Join us for a panel discussion exploring Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook’s work and life under the lens of solitude and collectivity, an event jointly hosted by Art Jameel and Asia Art Archive on the occasion of the publication of “The Bouquet and the Wreath” and the artist’s section in “At 25: Artists’ Early Worlds, Part I.”

Bringing together Sarasija Subramanian, Roger Nelson, Kittima Chareeprasit, Kong Rithdee, and Kamolwan Boonphokaew (Joice), the panel discussion will address the presence of solitude and collectivity in Rasdjarmrearnsook’s oeuvre from different perspectives: How does the duality of solitude and collectivity translate in her artworks, writings, and character? How is it picked up and interpreted in contemporary discourse? What role does it play in her oeuvre overall?
