Lionfish are an invasive species in the Caribbean and have a major impact on our reefs. These voracious predators feed on native fish and other marine life, reducing local populations and disrupting the natural balance of our ecosystems. 🪸

That’s why we run a lionfish control program in Utila to help manage their populations. After removing them from the reef, we bring them to the lab where we collect important data like length, weight, and stomach contents to better understand which species are being affected the most.

And nothing goes to waste! Once processed, the lionfish are filleted and can be turned into a delicious meal 🍽️
