We live in difficult times.

As and we were very pleased to be able to support the election campaign in Germany in Baden-Württemberg.
Together we campaigned for the SPD, for democracy and for Europe.

Has the German firewall fallen?

The CDU joined with the AfD to push a motion for a radical and reactionary migration policy. Including permanent pushbacks. The CDU‘s taboo act even had Angela Merkel condemned it. What happened? Why is there a “firewall” against extremists in Germany? And what are the consequences for Germany and the EU?

We can feel Europes freedom often by building relationships across national borders. With EuropeTalks we established a platform in which social interactions on a political and social level can take place and connect activists from our continent. 🌍🤲

And sometimes it also leads to unexpected crossing paths. An example for this happened last week at the when our activist and member of the parliament of the Madrid region from Spain 🇪🇸 met our german 🇩🇪 MEP !

Such encounters encourage our idea of an even more united Europe and thats why we talk. 🇪🇺🎙️

One week ago, the ballots for the 10th European Parliament elections closed in which the Social Democrats secured 136 seats. We are delighted to congratulate our founder and friend, Vivien Costanzo from Germany, who will be representing our progressive social democratic values as one of those 136 elected MEPs. 🇩🇪

For years, Vivien has fought for a united Europe, bringing together people from across the continent in solidarity and hope for a future based on dialogue and cooperation.

🇪🇺 EuropeTalks annual conference 2024 in Brussels.
This time main topic of the conference was “Migration”.

EuropeTalks activists from 10 different countries visited European Parliament (EP) to meet MEP Brando Benifei and Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar to discuss their experience in the EP and especially regarding migration issues.

Tobias Beylat (FES policy officer on Migration and Integration) prepared a presentation for us about the recent developments in EU migration politics.

We held our traditional session “Country updates”, which were focused on migration issues in various countries. We discussed the experience of Spain and Italy with migrants from the African continent, the experience of the Baltic countries with the refugee crisis on the border with Belarus, the situation with migration policy in central Europe, and also looked at migration issues from a completely different perspective - in Ukraine.
Representatives of the SD platform spoke about situation on the frontline, about lack of force, about the reconstruction of the country.

❗️Every EU member state emphasize different priorities in the framework of migration, but only common approach is able to address these issues.

Of course, we discussed not only migration issues. On the way to the EP we witnessed a strike by farmers, who demanded not to ignore farmers’ concerns for better prices and less bureaucracy.

Also we had an honor to meet Rene Repasi – German MEP, who just announced political agreement on new consumer rights “Right to Repair”. It is a concept that end users, business users as well as consumers, of technical, electronic or automotive devices should be allowed to freely repair these products even after legal guarantee has expired.

EuropeTalks is constantly developing organization and we also discussed to future strategy of ET and identified aspects of our work that we want to improve and develop. We have defined our work plan for 2024 and 2025 and have already started working on it.

👏 We would like to thank the FES Brussels representatives for their assistance in organizing this event and we were delighted to meet the FES representatives at the reception on the first day of the conference.
