Clued-in | U.S. weaponizes 'forced labor' claims to meddle in others' internal affairs
On July 23, the Office of the Trade Representative announced that under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, it would impose additional tariffs of 10 to 12.5 percent on imports from dozens of countries and regions on the grounds of so-called "forced labor," replacing a set of import tariffs that were due to expire.
Disregarding trade rules, the U.S. has directly converted unverified allegations about human rights into tariff pressure. Whether so-called "forced labor" exists should be determined by facts and evidence, not by political judgment, and certainly not decided at will by individual countries to suit their own political needs.
Yet the U.S. presumes guilt in advance and forces companies to prove their own innocence, treating unfounded rumors as fact while dismissing publicly available evidence. These so-called "human rights reviews," conducted in the name of protecting human rights, are in fact blatant interference in other countries' labor governance, industrial policies and development paths.

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, also China's lead person for - economic and trade affairs, held a video call on Thursday with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

The two sides held candid, in-depth and constructive exchanges on implementing the important consensus reached between the two heads of state at their meeting in Beijing, and on maintaining stable economic and trade relations, expanding practical cooperation, and properly addressing each other's concerns in the next stage.
The Chinese side expressed serious concern over the recent economic and trade restrictions imposed by the United States on China.

Both sides agreed that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, they would further leverage the role of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism to enhance communication, build mutual trust and dispel doubts, expand cooperation, promote the stable and positive development of China-U.S. economic and trade relations, and contribute to building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability.

What a living Chinese scroll painting！

At the Linhuai section of Hongze Lake Wetland National Nature Reserve in Sihong County, east China's Jiangsu Province, lotus flowers are in full bloom across 10,000 mu (about 667 hectares). Flocks of egrets weave through the blossoms – some wading in the shallow water, others foraging or soaring overhead.
The picturesque scene reflects the success of local conservation efforts. In recent years, local authorities have prioritized ecological protection while pursuing green development.
