BUDAPEST, 07 September 2026 — The Philippine Embassy in Budapest, led by Ambassador Maria Elena Algabre, highlighted the Philippines’ rich maritime and archipelagic heritage and the creativity and craftsmanship of Filipino artisans through its participation in the “𝘜𝘕𝘌𝘚𝘊𝘖’𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦: 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘛𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨” Conference and the“𝘈𝘙𝘛4𝘗𝘌𝘈𝘊𝘌 – 𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦” Exhibition, held in Budapest on 07 September 2026.

The Embassy’s participation also formed part of its observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMO) and the Philippine Creative Industries Month (PCIM), underscoring the role of the Philippines’ maritime identity and creative traditions in fostering intercultural dialogue, mutual understanding, and peace.

Held on the morning of 07 September at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the conference entitled“𝘜𝘕𝘌𝘚𝘊𝘖’𝘴 𝘙𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦: 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘛𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘜𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨” brought together diplomats, academics, artists, cultural figures, and civil society representatives to advance dialogue on tolerance, intercultural understanding, and peaceful coexistence.

The conference was officially opened by H.E. Zoltán Tarr, Minister of Social Relations and Culture of Hungary, and H.E. Khondker M. Talha, President of the 43rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference, who both underscored the role of culture, intercultural dialogue, and international cooperation in fostering peace and mutual understanding.

In the evening, the Embassy participated for the second consecutive year in the “𝘈𝘙𝘛4𝘗𝘌𝘈𝘊𝘌 – 𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘛𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦” Exhibition at Villa 11 in Budapest. The exhibition, curated by Mrs. Kinga Popovics, brought together diplomats, artists and poets from 22 countries, using visual art, poetry and music to foster intercultural understanding and peace.

Marking MANAMO 2026, themed “𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘢 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘢𝘯, 𝘚𝘢𝘮𝘢-𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘢𝘯”, the Philippine display highlighted the country’s maritime and archipelagic identity through marine-linked materials traditionally used in Filipino arts and crafts. Featured were a Mother-of-Pearl Rectangular Tray with Stand, Bowl, and Ring Home Decor handcrafted in 2025 by Capiz Furniture Ph, and a Capiz Lamp Shade.

The pieces featured natural materials sourced from the Philippines’ marine and coastal environments, reflecting the enduring connections among the country’s seas, coastal communities, cultural heritage, and creative traditions.

Ambassador Algabre presented the works as expressions of Philippine maritime identity, highlighting the shared responsibility to promote peace, cooperation, and stability in the region.

The display also celebrated Philippine Creative Industries Month, themed “𝘞𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘦 𝘈 𝘊𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯”, showcasing how Filipino artisans transform marine-linked materials through traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design into distinctive expressions of Filipino identity.

The Embassy’s participation likewise advanced its Gender and Development (GAD) advocacy, highlighting women as diplomats, artists, writers, and cultural advocates whose leadership contributes to building trust, strengthening intercultural understanding, and promoting peace.

Through its participation, the Embassy brought together maritime consciousness, Filipino creativity, and women’s leadership as interconnected expressions of Philippine cultural diplomacy—affirming the Philippines as a maritime and archipelagic nation, a creative nation, and an advocate for a more peaceful and inclusive world.END

BUDAPEST, 01 September 2026 — The Philippine Embassy in Budapest warmly welcomed Atty. Marietta L. Dela Cruz, the new Labor Attaché of the Labor Office of the Philippine Embassy in Budapest (LOPEB), following her arrival in Budapest, Hungary.

Atty. Dela Cruz reaffirmed LOPEB’s commitment to working closely with the Embassy under the One Country Team Approach to promote and protect the rights and welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) under its jurisdiction. She was accompanied by members of her family, and LOPEB Administrative Staff and outgoing Officer-in-Charge Charisse Mae Tiongson.

Atty. Dela Cruz brings more than 20 years of government service and extensive experience in labor and overseas employment, including program and policy oversight at the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Her extensive experience strengthens the Embassy’s commitment to providing responsive and effective assistance and services to Filipinos under its jurisdiction. END

BUDAPEST, 15 August 2026 — For the second consecutive year, the Filipino community in Hungary came together to celebrate the spirit, culture, and traditions of the Philippines through 𝙁𝙞𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖 𝙎𝙖 𝙉𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙣.

Organized by the Mabuhay Filipino Community in Hungary, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy in Budapest, 𝙁𝙞𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖 𝙎𝙖 𝙉𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙣 was successfully held on the Embassy grounds, bringing together Filipinos from across Hungary, as well as their families, friends, and Hungarian and international guests. The celebration offered a vibrant showcase of Filipino culture, cuisine, music, and fellowship, while highlighting the strong sense of community and shared heritage that continues to unite Filipinos throughout Hungary.

The President of the Mabuhay Filipino Community, Ms. Carmelina “Aishi” Fekete thanked the Embassy for hosting the event for the second year and expressed appreciation to the Filipino community for their continued participation and support.

In her welcome remarks, Ambassador Maria Elena Algabre reflected on the true meaning of the Filipino community (“FilCom”)—the shared sense of belonging among Filipinos abroad, felt in everyday encounters with fellow Filipinos in places such as malls, on the streets, and even along the Danube River. She reaffirmed the Embassy’s role as a home for Filipinos in Hungary and a space where the FilCom can gather, connect, and strengthen community ties.

Newly arrived Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Welfare Officer Ms. Noemi Tañag likewise introduced herself to the community and reaffirmed the commitment of the Embassy, including its Labor Office, to supporting the welfare and well-being of overseas Filipino workers. As the first OWWA Welfare Officer posted in Hungary, she expressed her commitment to making OWWA programs and services more accessible to Filipinos in the country.

A highlight of the celebration was the variety of community-led booths featuring Filipino food, delicacies, and products. Initiated and managed by members of the Filipino community themselves, the booths showcased their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit while recreating the lively atmosphere of a traditional Philippine fiesta.

Guests enjoyed Filipino favorites such as lechon, adobo, kare-kare, chicken inasal, pancit, barbecue, kwek-kwek, and Ilocos empanada, alongside kakanin and desserts including biko, p**o, kutsinta, halo-halo, leche flan, and ube treats.

Filipino products and refreshments, including sago’t gulaman, chicharon, bagoong, spiced vinegar, and chili garlic oil, were also showcased, allowing guests to enjoy familiar Filipino flavors and take home a taste of the Philippines’ rich culinary traditions.

The afternoon entertainment program featured a variety of vocal and dance performances that showcased the talents, creativity, and vibrant cultural spirit of members of the Filipino community. The performances provided an opportunity for participants to share their musical and artistic abilities while adding to the festive and celebratory atmosphere of the gathering.

The program also featured a lively performance by a Filipino band, which further enlivened the festive atmosphere and brought members of the community together through a shared appreciation of Filipino music and entertainment.

Fiesta Sa Nayon reflects the Filipino tradition of bringing people together through food, music, hospitality, and fellowship. Held during Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, or National Language Month, the celebration also provided an opportunity for Filipinos in Hungary to celebrate their heritage and strengthen their connection to Filipino culture while sharing it with friends and the wider community.

Through the event, the Philippine Embassy in Budapest and the Mabuhay Filipino Community reaffirmed their commitment to promoting Filipino culture while strengthening camaraderie, friendship, and solidarity among Filipinos in Hungary. The gathering also provided a meaningful opportunity for members of the community to celebrate their shared heritage, foster a sense of belonging, and deepen their ties with one another.
