🇭🇺 Magyarok öröksége az Egyesült Államokban 🇺🇸: Sorsok, terek, utak
A Méliusz Juhász Péter Könyvtár Központi Könyvtára előterében tegnap megnyílt kiállítás a magyarok Egyesült Államokba irányuló kivándorlásának történetét mutatja be, melynek révén az elmúlt 250 év során a magyar bevándorlók és leszármazottaik számtalan módon hozzájárultak az amerikai társadalom fejlődéséhez. 📖
A megnyitón Szabó Tünde, a Méliusz Könyvtár igazgatóhelyettese méltatta annak jelentőségét, hogy a magyar bevándorlók történetét és amerikai örökségét a debreceni közönséghez is közelebb hozhatjuk. Ezt követően Dr. Venkovits Balázs, a Debreceni Egyetem Angol-Amerikai Intézetének igazgatója és a projekt egyik kutatója beszélt a magyar kivándorlás különböző hullámairól, valamint arról a figyelemre méltó szerepről, amelyet a magyar bevándorlók és leszármazottaik az Egyesült Államok 250 éves története során az amerikai társadalomban betöltöttek.
A kiállítás korábban már bemutatkozott az Egyesült Államokban és Budapesten is. Most országos körútra indul, és az év végéig több magyarországi helyszínen lesz látható. 🚐 Nagy örömünkre szolgál, hogy egészen szeptember 12-ig Debrecenben lesz megtekinthető, és a 250. emlékévi programsorozatunk részeként együtt ünnepelhetjük Magyarország és az Egyesült Államok gazdag és sokrétű, máig élő kapcsolatait.

🇭🇺 Legacy of Hungarians in the United States 🇺🇸: People, Places, Pathways
The exhibition, opened yesterday in the foyer of Méliusz Library, our host institution, explores the history of Hungarian immigration to the U.S. and the many ways Hungarian Americans have contributed to American society over the past 250 years. 📖
At the opening, Tünde Szabó, Deputy Director of Méliusz Library, celebrated the opportunity to bring the stories of Hungarian immigrants and their American legacy to audiences in Debrecen. Next, Dr. Balázs Venkovits, director of the Institute of English and American Studies, University of Debrecen, and one of the researchers behind the project, spoke about the different waves of Hungarian immigration to the United States and the remarkable contributions of Hungarian immigrants and their descendants to American society over the course of the country’s 250-year history.
The exhibition has previously been presented in the United States and Budapest. It is now beginning a national tour across Hungary until the end of the year. 🚐 We are especially pleased to host this exhibition in Debrecen until September 12, and to celebrate the rich and enduring connections between Hungary and the United States as part of the @ commemorations.
