Due to the extreme heat--as well as preparations for a summer festival at our usual Forest Park location--this week’s English Conversation Club: Summer Edition will be held inside the ️air-conditioned premises of American Corner Debrecen. ❄️

Our topic will be comic books, graphic novels, manga, and the stories that shaped generations of readers. From superheroes and villains to Japanese manga and modern graphic novels, we’ll explore how comics became a global cultural phenomenon and why they continue to inspire movies, TV shows, and millions of fans around the world.

Come escape the heat, practice your English, and geek out over comics with fellow book and pop-culture fans!

Exciting changes are coming to the surroundings of American Corner Debrecen and the Méliusz Library area in general! 🌳✨

"A major redevelopment project will transform Bem Square in Debrecen into a modern, greener, and more welcoming public space. The aim is to restore the park as a popular destination while creating a venue suitable for relaxation, commemorative events, and small community gatherings. (...) A key part of the project is the renewal of the square in front of the library, strengthening its connection with the surrounding park."

We are thrilled to announce that two recent alumni of the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship program, Alma Veres and István Ádám Kiss (both of them students from Debrecen!), have been elected as EU Youth Delegates representing Hungary! Over the next 18 months, they will represent Hungarian youth at the European Youth Dialogue, an initiative that empowers young Europeans to help shape public policy and engage directly with EU decision-makers.

Congratulations to Alma and István on this wonderful achievement - we wish them a productive and impactful term! 🎉👏

It was a pleasure to team up with SpeakWell for another event in our joint program series. After hosting Round 1 at the American Corner in May, we were delighted to return the visit and bring our 🇺🇸 Americana Quiz Night to their downtown location.
